Just curious, what is the reward for winning a bracket in SCCL? Medals? Nothing?
My understanding is that GA soccer gives out champion and finalist medals for Athena/Classic bracket winners, is that correct?

Not sure about SCCL but GA soccer does give medals to the top two teams.

That's interesting, I have never heard of GA Soccer giving medals for winning Select.
I don't think SCCL gives you anything for winning the division.

They give first place and runner up medals for each division. I am not sure when they started it or whether they still do since we are not in it anymore.

I think it's a nice idea. Was just curious if SCCL did anything similar.

I think it's a nice idea. Was just curious if SCCL did anything similar. My guess is your club needs to become part of the "Medals First" program. It's only $5/player but you have to pick the medal up in Massachusetts or pay $68 shipping & handling.

Teams would get medals if they made the finals of state cup. The winner and runner up received medals then. Our U13s won Athena A a couple of years ago in the fall. No medels. We were happy to earn the promo to R3PL.

I can’t say what has been done in prior years but last year the winner and second place from regular season Athena A did get GA soccer medals. If I knew how to post a photo on here I could attach a pic.

They have been giving medals for division winners in GA Soccer for 15+ years, every year. If a team didn’t get them (as one poster mentioned) they probably just didn’t go pick them up from the GA Soccer office. Usually clubs send a rep to get them for all of their division winners/runners up.

Seems like a common sense thing to me. Many leagues reward regular season champions and then tournament champions.

Last year in SCCL the fall bracket winners were rewarded with automatic advancement to USClub Nationals in Colorado and did not need to qualify at Regionals in the Spring.
In May at the end of the season there was no bracket winner reward but there was the two weekend two tournament SCCL/NPL playoffs for “Division Champions”

Just spitballing (not arguing)...If you're crowned division champions from the tournament, what's the purpose of the long grind of the regular season? It's always possible for the bottom of the bracket team to win a tournament (especially if you add a few ECNL/former DA players right before the tournament). Its not like you're qualifying for the tournament out of 8 teams. Would be different if the bottom 2 teams werent eligible for the tourney and the top team got a bye into the semifinals.
High schools crown region champs before the state tourney and colleges have champions and them tournament champions.
Although the nationals bid is a nice reward.

Speaking only for my age group at the end of season two tournaments the first was a round robin playin and only the top four were placed in the semifinal Championship bracket the next weekend.
Several teams advanced from “SCCL Champions” and played at USClub Soccer Regionals and there were SCCL teams that won at Regionals to advance to USClub Nationals plus those that accepted the fall bid direct through.
USClub Regionals is a Tournament you either qualify for by winning a state or league championship or you can apply to be accepted. So if by chance the first place SCCLeague winner didn’t qualify to advance to Regionals by winning the tournament I would bet they could still apply to Regionals and would get accepted.
I think every age group boys and girls had one SCCL team competing at Nationals and I think 3 SCCL teams played for the Championship.
Mostly Vestiva Hills for the boys and TopHat for the girls. UFA, GSA, also had teams. I think Concorde had a girls team qualify but not go.
I know there are threads that argue the validity of calling USClub National Championship Tournament an “real national championship” since it’s not USYS National League versus the ECNL national champions versus DA champions cup versus NPL championship
In the real world who cares ...
Every league has a pathway to their own sanctioning or governing body National Championship just like every kid I know who plays baseball in Atlanta somehow ends up playing in Cooperstown LOL
I personally don’t think it’s a bad thing to give young adults an opportunity to work towards a bigger goal of playing and qualifying for whatever their next level is.
Also since it’s an SCCL thread
I’d rather they play 28 competitive games here and then qualify at NC and advance and maybe travel to CO for USClub instead of playing most of their games in NC, SC, AL, VA, FL, TX, CA, IL all year long just to end up in CO at a National Championship for ECNL that’s still run by USClub.

I agree with this sentiment. I think a lot of the regional leagues could be fixed if they were adjunct leagues (true "champions league") OR if everything was divided by division (GA/TN/AL/FL/NC/etc) where you play each team in other divisions once (not home/away). I think boys ECNL is now structured better than the girls in the SE.
