So watching some college soccer on TV and it seems the announcers like to affiliate players with the high schools they played for. I find that a bit off considering these players have spent more time playing club ball than anything high school can do for them. Wish they would say what clubs these players came from instead.

Yeah, college soccer rarely talks much about club ball, it's merely a footnote. If you look at college players bios, the longest bios discuss high school achievements.

And what if they never played HS?
There are schools that refuse to let the kids sign if they didnt play for them yet they get the credit for the signing SMH

Typically the announcers are given a stat/fact sheet which includes info regarding the players and their backgrounds. So, if the player never played HS ball then a HS won't be listed. However, I'm sure the schools are just lazy and provide the name of the school each player graduated from instead of where they actually played in the past.
They should give a form to each player prior to the season and have them fill it out. This way the player can better dictate who gets credit for where they came from. Kind of similar to how the NFL players on Monday Night Football introduce themselves and state where they are from...some say their college, some their high school, some just their town.

My assumption is the same folks at a school developing the information sheets for football/ basketball are also putting together material on soccer. There is a general lack of knowledge in this circle on the the relevance of High School soccer achievements versus club achievements. I think this is a pretty safe assumption.

Yeah, club matter a lot more in recruiting/recruiting rankings/etc, but after that, they really only highlight HS accomplishments.
"3 time state runner-up, 2017 state champions as a sophomore. Nominated as state player of the year 2 times, all-region team....blah blah blah"
"Played ECNL/DA for such-and-such..."
They will mention ECNL/DA/USYS national championship as well as state championships. College coaches likely know VERY little of our alphabet league soup, and why should they? Theres a much easier system to follow at the HS level.

A good number of college coaches also coach a youth team, they understand the leagues well.

My mistake, I didnt give context. I was speaking more to power conference D1 coaches who tend to recruit nationwide and are really only looking at ECNL/DA/NL players. There's no way they have time to coach club teams (though ODP is a possibility due to small time investment).
Smaller schools and especially D3 school coaches probably begrudgingly know a lot about their state leagues.

Generally speaking, most college soccer players went to a single high school for 4 years; however, many of them likely played for 2 or 3 or maybe even 4 different clubs. Probably just easier to mention HS.

Was told directly by a major D1 coach that he hasn't scouted a HS game in 20+ years.
