www.dirtysouthsoccer.com/2019/11/21/20976294/atlanta-united-announce-roster-decisions-for-2020-season2 Homegrowns options declined. quote from article: "Meanwhile, Chris Goslin, Justin Meram, Patrick Okonkwo, Florentin Pogba and Brek Shea were others that had their options for 2020 declined. It is possible that Meram is a player that could be tapped for a new contract with the club if he so desires since he is eligible for free agency" Goslin is an interesting one given he was a staple on youth national teams for years. Always felt these kids should have gone to college, even if it was for a short period of time. Goslin was never going to see first team minutes here, and Okonkwo would have had to score at a mad clip to be retained. I guess these players are not even options any longer for AU2? and a nice way to say goodbye

With Meram being a free agent, I wouldn't be surprised if AU resigns him. (At least I hope so.) I am surprised about Pogba. He played well and I thought FdB liked him.

Meram made way to much, AU will try to sign him back at a much more reasonable salary. There were also rumors that Pogba wants to go back Europe, or this could mean we feel good about keeping LGP.

I dont know the details of their personal experience with ATL UTD, but I am sure their development as a player was better there than any mens college team... Plus they had the chance to pursue their dream while being paid for it. There is still time for them to go to college (if they werent already)... Lets see where they end up though. It should be interesting...

Can they still go to college? I mean play in college? Didn’t they lose their eligibility when they signed a pro contract? And did they get paid enough so that they can now pay their own way to college? How many question marks can I use in one post? :-)

If they signed a homegrown contract, their college chances are gone as far as playing soccer and receiving a scholarship for soccer. They can always attend soccer at their expense.

I concur with you. Meram is grossly overpaid, considering he doesn't even start half the time. He makes almost DP level type $$$, I believe he's about $40 - $50k behind Villalba. I have heard he's looking to go into coaching and has begun the work to get certified & licensed. He's been doing some coaching within the Academy. So I definitely can see him being re-signed but to a lower salary. However, AU did post a thank you on Twitter, so who knows. I'm curious as to what their thoughts are with players like Carleton, Kunga and Kann. What is the long term plan for Carleton, with Vasquez gone will Kunga get more minutes and I don't even see Kann listed as a goalie with the team any longer. Wonder if he's leaning in more into his gig at Inter Atlanta. Would luv to keep the local connection on the team... Update: The club has made offers to midfielder Jeff Larentowicz and goalkeeper Alec Kann in an attempt to retain the players.

If you're lucky you sign for $65 - $75k based on your standing within the first team. If you're not a breakout star who will join the first team in short order, it might be better to go to college as a Homegrown. AU keeps the rights to you till I believe your junior year. Hopefully by then, you've honed your skills and grown physically, thereby giving you a better chance of getting on to the first team. Think Miles and Gressel. Not homegrown but definitely better players for their college experience...

Looks like Mikey Ambrose has been picked up in Stage One of the Re-Entry Process on Tuesday. After trading up for the first pick earlier this off-season, Inter Miami CF selected left back Mikey Ambrose. The former Atlanta United player has appeared in 25 matches over his four-year MLS career. He notably started Atlanta's Eastern Conference Semifinal match against the Philadelphia Union. Miami sporting director Paul McDonough previously acquired Ambrose in Orlando and Atlanta.
