cantgetright and soccergurl WeThinks you two should please get a room and spare us the online flirting 😁😃😁 In other news, AU did have some tryouts this week(ongoing). As far as I know this is currently limited to the U14s(2006) and U15s(2005). The boys trying out were at the training grounds on Monday and Tuesday and will be there again tonite. AU teams shut down for the holiday break starting Thursday, so tonite is the last nite to make enough of an impression to TA & Co. There are at least 15 lads for each age group that were brought in from local clubs, in addition to Alabama, Louisiana, Tennessee and a couple from the Carolinas(not sure which north or south). I have not seen any of the tryouts but from what I'm hearing the GSA kids tend to be holding their own and making an impression. No, I do not know if these boys will join the AU teams mid-season or if this is for the 2020-2021 season. IMHO, with homegrown territories shrinking, AU might just be trying to hedge their bets now before Nashville SC and a potential NC MLS club come online, thereby limiting their access to those territories...

Still crazy to me that I’m aware of some very very good 06s and 05s not at AU that aren’t getting invited to anything. Almost feel like your better off not playing DA if you don’t get invited at u9. There are some very very good 06s out there. Local kids Local products.

did yall watch the u15 team yesterday for au they lost and was outcoached. they have really small players in the middle so I think au should have another tryout to give other children in atlanta a chance

I can’t speak for the size of AU’s players; but my son has played with and against many of the NYCFC kids (his best friend starts for them) and they are a small team physically. A handful of tall kids but none that are truly physically mature.

NCFC looks like the club to mimic - we watched them play on Saturday. They aren't freakishly huge at the younger ages, and clearly are well coached and all 18 have a very good first touch. They play a good style of play, simple and have a high line and force the issue and the style of play. They press when they need to press etc.
Club knows what they are doing, it could be because they are the biggest in the country and basically the only club in greater Raleigh. But they clearly choose soccer players, not just the biggest strongest, fastest -- but soccer players first.
Maybe I'm crazy, but NCFC has it going on! nothing but impressed with what they are doing.

The AU 08's played up in the concorde tournament this weekend and I thought they played very attractive soccer. They were outgunned playing in the top flight of the division above them but they played extremely well and were certainly talented on the ball.

Losing 2 and winning only one for an MlS side is very disappointing.

Not when playing up against high calibur teams. Looks like they lost to a couple 07 ECNL teams. No doubt they would have been more competitive in the 08 age group.

They were trying to play a high line against bigger/faster players which just doesn't work, I imagine that is their style though. Possession wise they looked great, field is probably a little big for them still.

I'm wondering why ATL UTD even has a U12 team at this point.

I'm wondering why ATL UTD even has a U12 team at this point. Why not? Because they don't have U12 DA? Isn't their mission to develop first time players? European clubs don't wait until they are U13. Why should American clubs?

Sorry but that's not why they biobanded him. good player but just not physically developed yet. Risk injury by playing upper age group. Keep in mind he is a 04 and most U17's are 03.

What might look great on paper doesnt always translate to a good coach. Looking at past records, results are the same. That team was killing everyone they played (last year). maybe too much politics. Can't say. Just because you are small now doesn't mean you won't be later. I'm sure AU see's some things us parents don't. No U16 next year. It will be U17. So it will be a mix of 04/05 next year u17.

For what it's worth none of the clubs haven't handled the dreaded u16 age group well in my opinion. And honestly -- AU might have done this best job so far with more younger kids playing then the other clubs the past few seasons -- this year for sure, they have a lot of 04s playing. Give them credit for sure -- unlike UFA and Concorde: I think UFA and concorde might have 2 each? Both were very top heavy last season with the older half of the age group as well.

I too share your sentiments about AU trying to do right by the younger aged lads within the U16/17 age group. The players on the U17 DA benefit from the pace of practice and the occasional game playing with the lads from the U17x. You can see evidence of this at clubs like CF and UFA, when the younger aged boys return from their HS/SCCL/ECNL/NPL/Gap year. It takes them a minute to get their "sea legs" since they've not been going at the DA rate of speed...

Well never know From what I've seen, heard and watched, I don't think it is an issue with the likability of the coach. I think this team had a lot of success early and in lieu of upsetting the cart, AU didn't pull the trigger on some of the players who IMO should have been released and replaced with capable players locally who could step into those openings and not miss a beat. Yes the middle is on the smaller side, though technically sound they don't stand a chance against the bigger technical players, so they are unable to stop and onslaught through the middle. The other glaring issue is the entire left side. The right side is quite stout. I believe the LW, RB, RWB and the RCB are solid. From the few games I've watched they generate a lot of offence and are able to hold off opponents. On the left side, it's a revolving door approach since no one has shown that they are capable of stepping up and owning the position. I believe if they can find the right pieces within our current U17 X/DA to blend with the current U15s, that could be a formidable team. Till then, the Jekyll n Hyde results will keep popping up...

Yeah, i don't know. Hard to tell. Just basing off from what I hear. mind you, it could be just the parent's feelings.
Agree, next year will be a great mix for the ones they keep. I think it's going to be tough but im sure they are up for the challenge.
Also, the challenge will be how the boys handle the drastic change in training next year. I'm sure this will add another factor.
