Add Fred to the list that already includes Neymar, Ramires, and Marcelo (loved him getting clipping in ear and then falling down holding his eye), to name but a few. FIFA have to do something about this. That was terrible. And that was not the only egregious call in this match. Let's talk about whether there was a foul on the Brazil keeper on what should have been Croatia's second goal.
If FIFA had any guts Fred would be suspended for the next watch and that official would be sent home. Did he even ask his assistants? I might have to start a special cheaters and divers WC thread just to let off steam that I am sure is going to build on a daily basis.
Ok, what I will say that I learned from this match is that if Brazil play defense like this for the rest of the tournament they will not make the semifinal regardless of how much help they get from the officials.

Let me add that if Croatia had a keeper Brazil would not have escaped this match unscathed.

I didn't get to see the match today but I told one of my friends at work that Brazil will either win it all or go home early. Lots of pressure being the home team and one of, if not the favorite to win it all. I follow Jeff Kassouf on Twitter and he posted about how dreadful that call was so I need to go look for it.

Poor decisions by the ref. I really hope this WC is not tainted with match fixing schemes to be uncovered down the road. (made a bit of a mess with this posting, trying to quote)

Yes, Zizou a special cheaters and divers thread would be welcome.

Sadly, my initial thought after recovering from my mini-outrage was exactly the same: "How much did Brasil pay for that?" I also hope scandal does not end up being the final chapter to this World Cup.

By the way, how long before Coerver Coaching adds a Simulation Module to their excellent technique DVD? It will have subheadings of course:
1. Simulations useful in the middle of the field 2. Simulations useful along the wings 3. Simulations useful in front of goal.
We already have one for the third category, THE FRED: position your body in front of the defender at the top of the 6, receive a pass with a poorrific (poor-horrific) touch, then throw your legs out in front of you while falling back and simultaneously leaning against the defender. Slide down the defender, but land softly on your buttocks so as not to cause undue injury while throwing your arms wildly in the air, acting incredulous that a defender would dare steal your golden opportunity for glory. After the successful execution of this move, ending with the referee awarding a penalty, look to the heavens and raise your arms in exaltation. This will fool people into thinking that God provided divine intervention rather than realizing that you sold your soul to the devil.

until there is a penalty for this behavior, it'll continue.
Score one for MLS: at least they do retroactive reviews.
