In another thread discussing the clubs entering the SCCL summer league a very good question was asked and I'd like to start a thread discussing 'benefits of SCCL Summer League vs Super Y'
I am going to list the ones I 'believe' based on club and individuals(Families). I'm sure someone on here knows a LOT more than I do. I'm not sure I would participate in either again and I am curious how SCCL continues to use the word "ELITE" in their propaganda and what are the plans at the end of the season? Do they have a Nationals tourney? Do they really identify the 'elite' and help the players gain more exposure?
SCCL SUMMER LEAGUE
Benefits for Clubs
1) Easier scheduling - everyone who enters has to have a team in every age group
2) Increased $$ - I don't think this is a lot. The cost per player is fairly inexpensive, but fields, refs, coaches, etc still have to be paid
3) Increased Oppty to recruit - and here is the golden ticket. This is actually a GREAT way for any club (especially those in the SCCL) to get around the 'thou shalt not talk to other SCCL players' mandate that will supposedly get a club kicked out of SCCL (and was developed for that reason - but keep in mind that rule does not pertain to ECNL players so really an SCCL club can start recruiting an ECNL player ANYTIME during the year
Benefits for Players
1) Low cost
2) Play with friends at other clubs (but this is also a risk because you could piss your coach off at your current club)
Super Y
Benefits for Clubs
1) Smaller clubs - can participate
2) Increased $$ - I don't think this is a lot. The cost per player is fairly inexpensive, but fields, refs, coaches, etc still have to be paid
3) Increased Oppty to recruit -same as above, but these will probably be the non-sccl/ecnl clubs reaching the kids who won't travel long distances for practice... or other reasons
Benefits for Players
1) Opportunity to be selected for USSL Experience (this is a pretty cool experience - my kid went one year and met college scouts and players from around the nation. Some kids were talked to by USL coaches while they were there, as well - both GIRLS and BOYS)
2)Low cost
3) Play with friends at other clubs (but this is also a risk because you could piss your coach off at your current club)
4) Nationals Tournament - again, more exposure.
