I find previews like this hilarious as it leaves at the most important data set: which schools have the most club players and the quality/level of those club players.

First HS match tonight. Two refs and the clock counts backwards..... I believe the clock always counts backwards in GA for HS soccer. At least every game I have gone to it has been that way.

I understand that the clock always counts backwards of how it is supposed to. Just a general observation about some simple things that should not be but are. Ga HS soccer does allow for a two man crew instead of three but again a basic law that should give insight into our soccer system.

Not enough HS refs to put a 3-man crew on every game on busy nights. Some schools also opt for 2 v. 3 for cost reasons. And quite honestly, some games barely need 1 ref, let alone 3.

Only 2 refs is an embarrassment considering the fees being charged to the players and the fact that attendance is being charged. Can’t accurately call offsides without sideline refs and so far I’ve already seen with only 2 refs they are way out of position.

Bookers generally prioritize by quality of match. I was planning to work this season but with one still playing and another involved in other sports, it's damn near impossible and not worth the pittance in compensation. The timing and location of games also reduces the pool of available referees. Try leaving your office in Buckhead or Midtown and making a Tuesday 5:30 pm start in North Fulton, North Gwinnett, or West Cobb. Not everyone has that flexibility.

Last night should have been a scrimmage, usually only 2 refs, and sometimes for non-region games as well. Only region games count towards playoff berths, you should always see 3 refs at those games.
I would safely say in Gwinnett: Norcross, North Gwinnett, Mill Creek, Parkview, Brookwood, etc you are going to see club teammates play with and against each other. ECNL, Athena A and those that dropped DA.

For all the Officials - THANK YOU for everything you do! High School and Club Soccer wouldn't exist without you.
I've asked asked many times over the last 10 years but don't do High School games for a very simple reason - the two-man system ensures you're usually out of position to make the wrong call (note the sarcasm). It's not about the money for me, but many of our Officials use this to assist in making a living (see other posts).
The problem isn't that there aren't enough Officials - there are plenty. The problem is that it isn't worth it for some Officials to drive XXX number of miles to run two AR slots (they pay less than Center) during a typical Girls/Boys Varsity Schedule. A typical schedule is two Varsity games, meaning one Official out of three only gets paid for two AR slots...not worth it for a lot of Officials given that ARs make a good bit less per game, the time and distance to the games, and many Officials don't get paid until the end of the season...how many of us would wait three months for our Employer to pay us?
Schools/Parents (unfortunately it comes down to us) should pony up and pay all positions equally and allow the Assignor to put the best crews on the most important games and positions. We have an excellent Cadre of Assignors in Georgia).
For perspective - most Middle and JV games should/could be run with One Referee...yes, Offside will not be as accurate but it's not as important at that level.

I THANK all the officials too! One tiny request, please keep control of the games so kids don't get hurt. Not to be critical, but I see too many games that devolve into essentially tackle football games. One of the top priorities of a referee is to control the game and make sure kids don't get hurt due to reckless play. Sending a message early that certain misconduct won't be tolerated goes a long way in this regard. Have a great season!

We agree - let me clarify - there are not enough bodies / officials willing and able to do HS games. For the home viewers, with the 2 man (dual system), you have to pick one - manage the offside line or manage the middle of the field. You can't do both. Second part is coordinating foul recognition with the other official. Face it, every ref has slightly different interpretations of acceptable physical contact, what constitutes advantage, incidental handling, etc. Put two refs on the field with pretty different opinions and it gets ugly fast. Each ref might be fine on their own (either tight or loose, but consistent), but the conflict in calls from end to end drives everyone crazy.

We had a game Tuesday night that could have been out of hand. Very competitive with girls who are playing club at the highest levels. Lots of fouling- not necessarily chippy but due to being very aggressive. The ref called fouls on both teams and when he needed to he spent a couple of seconds talking with the girl. I'm guessing partly to clarify his point and partly to keep her calm so she could continue playing. I've complimented refs over and over for positive communication with the players. It help the overall game, and especially for the girls it lets them know you are hearing them. Ironically, the only card of the match was for a girl who forgot to take out her earrings.

So off topic from games here, but did any schools get new kits and gear this year and find out it’s beyond ugly and hideous?? We got new Nike gear and it’s like the coach found the ugliest baseball/football warmups and hoodies to go with jerseys and shorts that don’t even match. Coach even ordered two different shades of red for the same kit so it doesn’t even match.

Wow, thanks... it appears eurosportscoreboard no longer works with https and requires http instead. And the error if you try https is totally unhelpful.

Looks pretty unorganized and all over the place if there isn't an official place to visit, especially if every school isn't obligated to use one specifically to update. Is there a site that updates JV anywhere?

I think some scoreboards can only count down, so there is no count-up option.
I also read a while back that in college, it is the home team choice to count up or down, given the scoreboard is able.

Is there a site that updates JV anywhere? It is unorganized.. After all, it's just soccer. I can only speak for our school teams: if I did not report soccer scores they would not be reported, and I am simply a parent. Football, basketball, baseball, softball don't have that same situation in our school. We are a small school system, with no soccer culture to speak of, so the level of soccer IQ, or interest, is not very high. My situation is no different from that in a lot of smaller towns. Georgia Public Broadcasting has an app that reports specifically for football. There may be one for other sports, however I have never found one for soccer. The reality is that in our state, football is king. There is great interest in basketball and baseball, and then other sports fall in line. Certainly there are local papers, and coaches, that do a good job of promoting all sports, and the AJC does a decent job of doing the same. Our local paper ran a great story about our football awards ceremony, and provided a good rundown of basketball games. There is a good season preview of baseball, however nothing about soccer or track. Admittedly, our soccer programs are nothing special, however our high school has a couple of state title contenders in various track events.

At least they got rid of the A-B-B-A penalty kick method after a one year failed experiment.
