Did anyone see this game? Interesting 1-1 scoreline. Does that mean DPL and ECNL are on a par?

Depends on the team. My daughter played DPL. In open tourneys they beat ECNL teams and went 1-1 against DA teams (loss was respectable). Other DPL teams we played were not at the same level. Some were top notch, others were more RPL equivalent.

Admittedly shortened halves and played on a baseball field but still sounded pretty even. I don’t think you can make sweeping generalizations of the leagues but would say both have good talent.

Not exactly. I know several teams who were down several players due to last minute schedule changes. Also, the 20 minute halves were not the best of circumstances for teams to gain momentum.

Also looking forward to later this spring to see the 06G GSA play the Concorde ECNLs since GSA is currently 1st in this age group.

Seriously?!?! How did I guess this would come up. Are you really trying to make sweeping generalizations of entire leagues based on two 20 minute halves? If you can even call DPL a league. There were only 4 teams. Obviously both of these two specific teams have talent. But that doesn't mean you can compare the entire leagues.

The weather did deprive us of the opportunity to watch teams from various leagues play each other. I think we all would agree this is something we desire. Wether we like or not ECNL, DA, SCCL, NPL, DPL, MBYL (My Back Yard League) are all up and functioning except for 1 (can you guess which one). Maybe they all will play in a end of season tournament against each other. Until then everyone gets the opportunity to beat their chest and say my child plays for the best team.

I'm actually not arguing either is better than the other. Just the original poster titled the post with two specific teams in one single age group that played one half of one full game and asked if that meant the leagues were on par. My point is that it is a HUGE stretch to make any global assumptions based on any single result.

I have daughters in both npl and dpl and have watched alot of games of both. All of the leagues have their ups and downs. Dpl has been actually pretty good, while true we only had 4 teams in the league there was enough competition to get good minutes for the girls and with the showcases and CASL we have played some teams that have been really really good. The dpl teams from Texas and California are top notch and can beat a number of the ecnl and da teams. At CASL we were places in the top bracket and played ECNL teams and held our own with 50 to 70 coaches on the sideline which is all you can ask for. There have been some downsides with the travel but with Charlotte Soccer Academy, Florida Rush and IMG joining along with 2 or 3 more in southeast the league will jump NPL especially since many of the Carolina NPL teams are moving to the regional ECNL. As I previously said there are ups and downs with every league and if your child is developing thats all that should matter.

If CSA, Florida Rush and IMG are joining that will definitely improve the league. Where can people confirm those teams? Who else in the southeast is joining and where can that be confirmed? The craziness of the leagues popping up everywhere means more uncertainty which just seems to breed more leagues. Crazy

CSA announced it on their website under news and listed the other two along with the statement that 2 or 3 more are joining.

Atleast currently, DPL has no clout with college coaches. I talked to the main assistant coach at a local D1 university over lunch and she was only looking at players from DA, ECNL and National League. DPL wasn’t even in her radar.

I dont think that would suprise anyone. There are a number of D1 programs who have that same philosophy and it will probably be that same way for both the regional ECNL programs next year and DPL. But there are also other D1 programs who are looking at individuals within all teams whether it be NPL, SCCL or others. If you really want to be recruited by either a D1 or D2 program it takes more than just a coach having the league on their radar. It takes going to their ID camps, constant emails and letting them know where and when you are playing. It really takes developing a relationship with the coaches. From this type of effort our DPL team had D1 coaches come to our league and showcase games and talk to those they were intrested in. At that point then it is up to the individuals play and not the league.

DPL is currently a mainly west coast league that is just now expanding east. I would expect recognition and awareness to improve as the league improves. Not a surprise that a local coach, who is probably focused on the southeast, would have a good grasp of DPL yet. Earlier poster was correct, the Texas and California DPL teams we played were very good and would be competitive against any alphabet level. And please don't take this as proselytizing any league over another, just providing observations.

FYI, the 06 DPL team was the SCCL team last year, so this could easily be read as 06 Girls SCCL vs ECNL Platinum... if Tophat had not switched over to this new DPL league.
Says something about where the SCCL is in relation to the ECNL when it comes to the top teams... I'm not saying it is on the same level overall, but it is closer than some will admit.

This actually would have been the Tophat ECNL team NOT the SCCL had they not been forced to choose GDA over ECNL.. SCCL and ECNL are not close. Regardless, its NTH's 2nd team vs CF's 1st team. Overall, I'd give the CF team the edge over 60% of the time. Especially when they all get to HS age and ECNL (and what league the kids are in) actually matters for something other than parents/kids egos.

I dont know if thay is correct? Then where did the Tophat SCCL team go from last year? I can tell you this years SCCL team is not the same as last years team. I was pretty sure that the SCCL team from last year (that won the SCCL) became the DPL. Can someone from Tophat correct me if I'm wrong? Which I very well could be... Also, some of the top SCCL are closer than you may think, but it all depends on perspective and what you see... I've noticed certain clubs and the older age groups there is a sharper contrast where it isnt very close... again, it all perspective.

The current TH DPL 06 team used to be the SCCL team (that won SCCL) from last year. They were going to become the ECNL team this year if TH kept both ECNL and GDA. That team lost a striker, winger, CB, and GK coming into this year. We have friends on that team and they are a talented group with a good coach. The current TH SCCL 06 was last years Athena A team.

One poster's point is that the 2018-19 SCCL team WOULD HAVE BEEN the 2019-20 ECNL team (2nd team).
But the truth is that NONE of these teams are the same are the same as last year. I know of 3 NTH 06's that were dropped and went to GSA ECNL, one GSA ECNL went to NTH DA, 3 CF ECNL's went to AFU, yada, yada, yada.
My understanding is that NTH's DPL and SCCL teams are basically both 2nd/3rd teams because some players opted for SCCL rather than drinking the DPL Kool Aid. I'm guessing this is mainly true at the younger ages (which makes sense).
Its pretty obvious that NTH wasn't as strong in SCCL this year. They won one bracket this year and had 3 2nd place teams (U16 and below). Their 17's and 19's were not very good, I assume that's because girls in the older HS ages wisely went to other clubs where they could be showcased on top teams rather than being buried on a 3rd team.

Thank you for backing up what I was saying... the DPL was the SCCL team... minus a 3 players or so ... True, no team is usually the same from year to year, and there will 2-3 players that change every year, but the bulk of that team was SCCL, and Tophat has the depth that there would not be that much drop off, if at all, by replacing those few that do leave. My point was, and still is, that it says something about where the SCCL is in relation to the ECNL when it come to the top teams.

Really only for NTH's 2nd team LAST YEAR. That SCCL team beat GSA'S ECNL team in the SCCL cup.
U13 doesn't have DA, and in 2018-19 their top team was ECNL and 2nd team was SCCL.
AFAIK, in 2019-20 the U13 top team (pre-DA) aren't in a league and their 2nd team is (generally speaking) DPL across the board, meaning SCCL is 3rd team across the board, hence their SCCL is not as strong in U13 as it was last year.
I'd say the top SCCL team in each age group can compete with the bottom ECNL teams, but for instance the 06 SCCL fall winners Concorde got beat 4-1 by AFU's ECNL team (who is 2nd-to-last of the 06 ECNL table currently) at the GSA Invitational.

Fair enough... as for the "for instance" you mentioned I actually saw that '06 AFU ECNL vs Concorde SCCL and the game was actually close until Concorde fell behind and pushed for the equalizer in the 2nd half... a pretty balanced game until then... but that's why it's hard to take single game scores as predictors without known the context of them. I know that same Concorde team finished 2nd in SCCL to that now DPL Tophat team last year, and the times they played the scores and the games were very close... of course, that Concorde team is really their 2nd team because the ECNL Premier slot was given to the SSA team in that age group, soooo... they are much like that '06 Tophat team in that regard.

Agreed. IMO teens 4-16 in GA should be able to put up good games against one another overall. Both the teams you mention are likely in the top 10.
Most interesting in that bracket was how the Roswell NL team struggled.

Most interesting in that bracket was how the Roswell NL team struggled. They did but also had several kids (4 I think) out for other sports and with the flu. But that would have been a challenging bracket for them regardless, though it would have been nice for each team to have been at full-strength.
