Former Furman Soccer Standout Ricardo Clark To Retire On Wednesday
Greenville, S.C. – Former Furman Soccer standout Ricardo Clark is set to sign a one-day contract on Wednesday to retire as a member of the Houston Dynamo, it was announced earlier today.
The Jonesboro, Ga., native played 17 seasons in the professional ranks, including a pair of stints with the Dynamo (2006-09, 20012-17). A three-time MLS all-star, Clark guided the Dynamo to MLS Cups in 2006 and 2007. He ranks second in club history in games played, games started and minutes played.
Originally a draft pick of the New York/New Jersey MetroStars in 2003, Clark also spent time with the San Jose Earthquakes and played the past two seasons with Columbus Crew in MLS. He played three seasons with Eintracht Frankfurt in the German Bundesliga.
Clark will finish his MLS career with 36 goals and 28 assists in 357 regular season appearances. The midfielder also made 34 appearances with the United States National Team, including earning a spot on the USA roster for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa along with former Furman teammate Clint Dempsey. Clark tallied three goals during his career in the red, white and blue.
Prior to his professional career, Clark played two seasons for the Paladins and earned United Soccer Coaches and College Soccer News First Team All-American honors as a sophomore in 2002. He finished with three goals in 37 appearances for Furman and helped the 2002 squad to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen.
