With another thread burning up about DPL and DA or ECNL or ERCL lets remember this. None of the exclusive leagues truly care about development or finding a real champion. Yes not ECNL, not DA, not YNiDL (You Name it Development League). Please, please dont rebut with well ______ league truly does care, but they got hosed by _______. This same issue is happening in all youth sports and cheer! Sigh...
I am primarily talking about girl's soccer here, but it applies to boys as well...
Now back to your normally scheduled activities...

"Alphabet status leagues". It should be mentioned that none of the alphabet-status clubs care about developing your children either. Individual coaches, yes, clubs, no. They will just as happily accept the tuition money of a child they consider better than yours to take your kid's spot (probably even over the objection of the coach they were going to play for).
And on the top teams they'll do it as quickly as tell you to your face that they're committed to your kid.

Now back to your normally scheduled activities... I would agree with you. At some level it is up to the kids and parents to determine if they are developing. The coach at each of these clubs/leagues is more important than the league. Kids who have developed good technical skills and understand the game will go far if they are willing to put in the work regardless of the league. This is where a good coach can be make or break. The caveat is so long as there is at least a basic level of competition which all of these leagues have.

I’m at the stage where I know more youth coaches who have retired from coaching then currently coach....
And I’m talking about some seriously insane quality coaches. Coaches who did care and got it....
But Now I sound like and old guy yelling at kids to get off my crappy lawn....

Just heard this quote from Coach K on basketball and beyond on siriusxm about 25 minutes ago:
He was interviewing I think it was a coach or former player etc, but they began talking about another coach and Coach K said this about him and the type of coach he is/was:
"Their only agenda is your success"
