My daughter will be U15 Fall 2020. In a dream world, DOC's would be transparent before tryouts on what tourneys and showcases each team will participate in.
This is a big deal when it comes to filling out recruitment questionnaires and competing with teams you normally wouldn't.
What do you feel are the "must attend" showcases and tourneys for U15 and older?

oldboy thank you so much for your input. Schools in the Southeast is definitely the goal (including TX). Tourneys and showcases like Disney, WAGS and Jefferson Cup have been "checkbox" options on the questionnaires we have come across when asked what tourneys and showcases you have participated in. In reference to College Bound summer camps, I find the UNC Chapel Hill camp a great one ... even if it is just to see how your daughter sizes up against other girls on different levels from around the world (there were some girls from Hong Kong, Zimbawe, Canada and other countries). I love their thorough grading system.

BubbleDad, can you expand on the "grading system"? It is a UNC camp, but do they tell your player at what level they should be looking at, etc? The reason I ask, is that I'm looking for a good gauge of where my kid might fit on state or regional colleges. Some parents tend to have a rose-colored glasses about these things and I want to come at this with some reliable, reasoned judgement from those that don't have a bias or ulterior motive. Anyone else have experience with this can jump in on this as well. Thanks!

Other than the power 5 conferences which typically seem to run them as a for profit endeavor most of the other ones are there to find players. It gives the player a chance to interact with the coach and meet the current players. Most of them allow players once they get to be rising ninth graders eventhough now with the new rules they cant offer until junior year. The one thing with having them go once they can is most players that I have seen lose some of their nerves once they realize it is just another camp. I know my daughter did. Once you go to one or two you will get a feel of the level of player at those particular size and divison. Many of the coaches at any level will not have much to do with you until you go to their camp and show intrest in their school.

Thanks for sharing! My kid is also in the 8th grade and the reason I asked is because we want to start the process early as well, with her already knowing that is what her goal is. We have received similar "report" cards in the past, but with different equivalencies for the numbers. I like this one because comes at you from the point of college point of view (i.e. College bound, College level).

How many girls were at the UNC camp you attended? We attended a Clemson ID camp a year ago and was told >300 players. This number was exponentially higher for the boys camp. Possibly 500 or more. Most camps are only focusing on a handful of players from a recruiting standpoint. Several schools that are using for ID purposes are setting a maximum number of players for the camp and then closing registration once that fills up.

UNC camps always have the biggest numbers... they're the big dog in women's soccer.

atv it was a lot of girls at the UNC camp but to each 12 or so girls there were 2 coaches working with that group. They scrimmaged different teams different times of the day. You definitely get your money's worth in reference to training and feedback that your child can use to focus on in their individual training through the year.

soccerlegacy No prob. Many blessings on this journey with your player. I tell my daughter to grind during individual training and team practice, so she can have fun on the pitch and trying out what she's been practicing.

soccerlegacy ... we plan to attend the March 28 Clemson ID camp but have to leave right after lunch due to my daughter's team having a late afternoon game. Did your player get anything out of the camp?

Regarding Clemson camp. That was my daughter’s first ID camp and so I think she learned a lot about the process. She liked it. It was like 3-4 days (I think) and there was a lot more free time than what she was expecting. Her roommate at the camp, who she didn’t know before, actually got a LOT of recruiting attention. My daughter said the coaches knew her before the camp so she was already on their radar. They follow each other on social media and I believe she said the girl just recently committed to another ACC school.

It hard to know which camps are the money grabs and which are the legit ones that truly help. Thanks to everyone for their insight. I need to make a thread asking the question so I don't wind up hijacking this one.. Unfortunately, I'm at work and don't have the time... probably shouldn't even be responding to these now! LOL

It's all good. Showcases and camps are both about exposure.
