I wish for simpler times in that there was just ONE US Youth Soccer Organization and each club had only ONE location. Then teams would only be designated as A,B,C,D,E, or 1,2,3,4,5,ETC. It would be easy to know where any individual team fell. You wouldn't have one club with 6 locations and their teams split among DA/ECNL/DPL/NPL/SCCL 1-******9. TOP 15 teams or so in the state would be A.....next 15 or so would be B, etc. All the way down to D or E or F or whatever it needed to be. To give incentive, say the top 3 move up, bottom 3 move down, and repeat. The good ole days....................... Now, back to the real world.......................................................................

A single pyramid with ABC123 Definitely seems like a better system when it can only be “gamed” by trying out for a stronger team and being offered a spot. The alphabet soup non hierarchy IMO is doing more harm (kids quitting) than good IMO.

It's a tricky subject. The pyramid itself would be TEAMS. Strongest teams attract the strongest players. Even in a pro/rel league Barca, Real Madrid, etc acquire many of the best players so that the next level of teams simply cannot compete on a week by week basis. So would it be with youth clubs. We have a hierarchy, DA/ECNL, SCCL/NPL/NL, Athena A/SCCL-P, etc. No, they're not all in the same league pyramid, but the hierarchy is there.
Similarly you have EPL/Bundesliga/La Liga, then Serie A/League Un, then Liga MX/MLS, etc.
If you're pretty sure your kid is elite, tryout for DA/ECNL (assuming you can afford it and don't mind the travel). If not, enjoy your kid being the bigger fish in a smaller pond for a bit.

Would NOT be in favor of a TEAM based pro/ rel format. A CLUB based pro/ rel format, I would support. Clubs that are truly developing players and are showing sustainable, consistent results throughout age groups would benefit.

Deadpool: "Ewww, I'm gonna spell it out for ya..." (before lining the bodies to spell Francis) LOL

Clubs that are truly developing players and are showing sustainable, consistent results throughout age groups would benefit. like this because it’s better than ranking by executive fiat... but it would still artificially support super clubs who really don’t need artificial support.
