It will be suspended till the end of April, and US Club soccer leagues will follow soon there after today or tomorrow. I think this is still all overkill.
I bet you no club is going to give their parents a partial refund for the season either.

The problem with this virus is that once infected, you can be contagious until you show symptoms, which can take 5 days on average.
It's already here and people are infected and don't know it. The numbers will be through the roof by next week.

Overkill. Stay smart and clean, but millions of Americans got the N1H1 virus and I believe 12,000 deaths----NO hysteria. Roughly 1,500-2,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 50 deaths? MASS MEDIA HYSTERIA----I'll leave others to figure out why the difference in media attention:) I know I'm off a little on my numbers but it's in the ballpark. "As of mid-March 2010, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimated that about 59 million Americans contracted the H1N1 virus, 265,000 were hospitalized as a result, and 12,000 died"--CDC

Definitely no need to panic but it should be fairly obvious at this point that things are going to change around here very quickly.
Just take a look at Italy. And to think people are concerned for partial club refund- so insignificant.

The hospital my wife works in (rhymes with Borthside) doesn’t have enough PPE available for patients or staff. And managers are giving conflicting and utterly worthless direction. For staff who live with elderly family.. this is very big deal since you don’t know you’ve been exposed until 4 days after.
It’s a fookin global pandemic. But sure, it’s probably just a hoax to make the president look bad.
ps: sucks hard for coaches right now... Income instability. Crazy

How do you like those odds? Italian officials were quoted as saying "we" (as in the Italians) have a lot of old people with medical problems. In the US nearly all of the deaths are from the nursing homes in Washington. The mortality rate elsewhere is a lot lower and a lot of experts are saying that it is likely well under 1% because many infected people are not sick enough to go to the doctor to get tested. The Spanish flu had about the same mortality rate. H1N1 was much lower, but 80% of those that died from H1N1 were under 65 compared to most flu viruses which are the opposite (though the Spanish flu killed a lot of young too). We won't really know what the mortality rate is until the pandemic is over.

Pandemic definition:
pan·dem·ic
/panˈdemik/
adjective
(of a disease) prevalent over a whole country or the world.
Pandemic does not equal automatic death. It is just means it has hit enough countries to say it is now a global virus.
Yet the word "Pandemic" sounds so catastrophic... I think people are freaking out over the word because of not educating themselves... they see a movie that makes a pandemic seem like the "end of days" and are influenced by it. .... It's not the first time movies and TV have shaped unrealistic expectations compared to real-life situations.
Wash your hands, follow safe guidelines, educate yourself by following medical experts and the CDC, and this too will eventually pass. Now is the time for calming voices from the media....tell the audience the facts, not just the ones that are designed to scare you and get more viewers. Instead, we seem to be getting all the negatives, only.

Obviously I offended someone on here, and don't want to turn this into a political agenda like the media sure seems to love doing. So, I will "walk the walk", and go ahead and delete my post. Again this is not time for the blame game. We need to stay calm and work together. They call it a pandemic, because it is across the world. For the large majority it is not severe, and for the ones that are at risk, everyone needs to follow safety guidelines and lessen the risk of spreading this to the weaker among us. Wuhan, China was what started this, but we are all feeling the effects, much of which no person (or leader) from any country can completely control.
This is a soccer forum so I will try to leave it to soccer talk, when it comes to this virus moving forward.

Received last night:
GSA Family,
Some of you may have seen communication from "Georgia Soccer" that cancelled all affiliated activities. The vast majority of our programming is not affiliated with Georgia Soccer in any way. The players and/or teams that may be affiliated for league play are still registered under other governing bodies which gives us the flexibility to make LOCAL decisions based on LOCAL conditions and LOCAL recommendations and guidelines. We take the health and safety of our players, coaches, volunteers, and staff very seriously, and it was deemed appropriate to open the gates and allow the kids to get out and play!
Should you, for any reason, be uncomfotable attending practice tonight or in the foreseeable future, we encourage you to make the decision that best meets your family's best interests. We are disappointed that communication from Georgia Soccer was blasted out in the manner that it was with the language that it used. We work very hard to make sure kids have the ability to get outside and play soccer, and are enjoying watching them play at this very moment.

Keep in mind the CDC, Gov Kemp and the GA Dept if public health do not recommend cancelling school or sports activities (at least in Gwinnett). There is a very handy flow chart providing guidance to schools and another for events/activities. Again at least in Gwinnett with no confirmed cases, the recommended guidance was Plan and Communicate. Nothing about cancelling.

Hysteria Rules. Based on the death rates for coronavirus, if you are under 50, you have a .2% chance of dying. 50-60 1.3% death rate. Over 60 it goes up. 50% of the deaths have another comorbidity such as cancer, etc. (I bet the numbers are even better since likely most cases were triggered by serious symptoms and mild symptoms likely are not being tested.) Meanwhile, you have a .8% chance of dying in a car wreck.
Answer: maybe quarantine folks over 60 especially if they have a serious comorbidity. Not shut down the entire country!

There's a lot to unpack here.. but I'll try. "he has not cut funding"
Except for disbanding the group that was designed for this EXACT purpose. He cut it in 2018 - it was part of the NSC.
"When he tried to shut off overseas flights into this country his opponents cried racism. Last night, they blamed him for not shutting down flights from infected countries soon enough."
You mean after it was already spreading here? Locking the door after you let someone in doesn't keep them out.
"Obama did NOTHING during H1N1. He did NOTHING."
Stop reading news from Facebook - it's bad for you.
Obama’s acting director of health and human services declared H1N1 a public health emergency on April 26, 2009-when only 20 cases of H1N1 — and no deaths — around the country had been confirmed. Two days later, the administration made an initial funding request for H1N1 to Congress. Eventually $7.65 billion was allocated for a vaccine and other measures.
H1N1 was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization on June 11, 2009.
"Reading a teleprompter is crucial during a pandemic how again?"
Oh, I don't know.. being able to stick to script and not just make shizat up? When your own people have to correct you the moment the presser is over, maybe there's a problem with staying on script.

Last checked, this is a soccer forum providing soccer insight and NOT a political Forum where biased opinions, assumptions/speculations with near zero first hand/direct factual knowledge being thrown around like chimps do with their poop.. even the thrower smells like shizatz (LOL). Get a grip, don’t like the current or prior administrations, put your name in the hat for the office, get elected and then show us how to be president
