So GSA sends out 2 emails today confirming that their practices and games are on? They even went as far as to clarify that they don’t follow Georgia Soccer recommendations? Really, GSA? How about that all school systems are closing, is that not good enough for you? Shame on you GSA!!

If you are young and healthy and don't have someone in your inner circle that could be effected, going to an outdoor event with a gathering of less than 40 or so people for a few hours over a weekend doesn't seem that "shameful". You have more interactions and come in contact with more potential risks at a grocery store than a soccer field. If an individual deems that too "risky" then it should it be their decision (versus someone making it for them), no?

Taking a one out of SSA's playbook, nice. "Georgia Soccer, you don't OWN me!"

I doubt they will have games because all the clubs they are supposed to play will not play them. As for training I don't see the issue in making it available as long as the parents want to show up. I know my kid will get really bored with online school and will want to get out of the house. If an organized soccer practice outside were an option, I'm sure it would be welcomed with excitement.

Here is the email, I didn't think it was that bad. Side note, they cancelled ECNL until April End (we are still practicing).
"GSA Family,
Some of you may have seen communication from "Georgia Soccer" that cancelled all affiliated activities. The vast majority of our programming is not affiliated with Georgia Soccer in any way. The players and/or teams that may be affiliated for league play are still registered under other governing bodies which gives us the flexibility to make LOCAL decisions based on LOCAL conditions and LOCAL recommendations and guidelines. We take the health and safety of our players, coaches, volunteers, and staff very seriously, and it was deemed appropriate to open the gates and allow the kids to get out and play!
Should you, for any reason, be uncomfortable attending practice tonight or in the foreseeable future, we encourage you to make the decision that best meets your family's best interests. We are disappointed that communication from Georgia Soccer was blasted out in the manner that it was with the language that it used. We work very hard to make sure kids have the ability to get outside and play soccer, and are enjoying watching them play at this very moment.
As a side note, the majority of other sports in our areas (baseball, lacrosse, etc.) are also practicing and playing as normally scheduled.
Again, sorry for any confusion, and we hope you enjoy the beautiful weather this evening at home or on the fields!"

As a parent, i'm sure many are thankful for the unexpected midseason break, but honestly, I agree with you and atlfutboldad that no one owns my kid and I and I alone determine what is best for my kid. Too many times we see this play out with parents following the preverbal shiny bouncing ball. Player X is training at location X, so to make my kid better, I too will practice there too, even though mine is a defender and Player X is a striker. It seems in this day and age, we practice the follow me game, when in fact we should constantly be doing what is best for our kids, as young people, players and sometimes that may entail leaving a club...

How about that all school systems are closing, is that not good enough for you? Shame on you GSA!! GCPS did not follow the guidance from GDPH. GSA is simply following the guidance of local health officials. We are in ‘Plan’ stage right now. www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/community/large-events/mass-gatherings-ready-for-covid-19.html

Also, consider the 1500+ kids in Rec. Everyone on this forum usually focuses on the top of the pyramid, DA, ECNL, NL, etc. But let’s not forget the huge base of the pyramid that is Rec. Also the young referees learning their craft. Tons of kids can show up and play until local health officials say otherwise.

they've literally closed every school system in metro atlanta - and you're all suggesting that we should undermine that attempt at minimizing the spread by playing rec soccer games due to their importance? Rec soccer is more important than school?

All I’m suggesting is follow the guidance of local health officials. And I understand Rec is not important. I’m pointing out that GSA vs Tophat should get cancelled while two local U7 teams in Gwinnett (with zero cases) might be able to play. Even the CDC and GDPH says school systems should not decide on their own. They need to partner with local agencies.

Rec soccer is more important than school? I can't speak for everyone, but I'm not trying to undermine anything. Colleges, High Schools, Middle Schools are closed door environments with thousands of individuals co-mingling, eating together, bathrooms, touching multiple surfaces, etc. ( Plus they have the ability to continue with digital learning, so it is prudent to cancel those) This is also not the NBA, MLS, NHL, etc. either... where there aren't thousands of people coming to a game to sit or stand shoulder-to-shoulder for hours, and AGAIN, touching multiple surfaces (seats, railings, concessions, bathrooms, etc) I'm talking about leaving the house for an hour long U11 game on a Saturday or Sunday over the weekend that is held outdoors, with a population of kids ( most of who are not in danger of this virus) and parents that are never more than 40 or so people spread out on a sideline, and the only thing I'm touching is my fold-out chair and my car!!! Are you not leaving your house for anything? Going to the grocery store? Restaurant? Home Depot? a friends house? ... REALLY? All that seems more dangerous to me than a kids soccer game.

She was looking forward to the money. I read the CDC page you linked. What defines an "outbreak" in a community? For that matter what defines a "community"? County lines are not worth a flip at describing a community in metro Atlanta. People are all over the place between counties for work, shopping, school, sports. I really wish they had not canceled soccer for my kids. Especially the trainings. My kids fully plan to train on their own and you better believe that they will be at the fields and out running and other things. I don't blame GSA for making their own decisions. I don't blame parents for it either. But once you have colleges, schools, etc shutting down it is not unexpected for sports to follow. I agree the sports is much lower risk, but I expect GSA will follow what everyone else has done soon.
