Yes, so far only the Costa Rica vs. Greece match was less than interesting for long stretches, but the tension in that game went way up after the red card. Quite a tournament. Very few teams have been willing to sit back and simply absorb pressure then look to score on counter. There is lots of open, free flowing, attack-minded soccer. Not always the most technically complete soccer, but at least teams are making an effort. Remember when Catenaccio or some version of it was believed to be the surest route to victory?

Why wasn't Green in earlier for the US today?? He immediately brought up the tempo.

Why wasn't Green in earlier for the US today?? He immediately brought up the tempo. Green did a decent job against Belgians who had played 100 minutes already, but I'm not ready to hand him the keys to the car for 2018 unless I see a LOT more. He didn't look real confident to me when he was dribbling 1 on 1 (compared with say, Lukaku) and his goal was not even struck cleanly. But he did score, so that's good. I was impressed by Yedlin's offensive work, but his defense was shaky (aside from a few sprints back to recover - he's great at that). I was impressed by Jermaine Jones in the first 3 games especially. The "cleats up" tackle he survived today should have broken his leg. The guy is a warrior, and he never stopped in all four games - his determination and heart is an attribute that can't be taught. I'm amazed at how Mike Bradley played, having considered him our best player for the last 3-4 years. If 4 months in MLS did that to him, he needs to get back to Serie A on the first plane. He didn't look like the same guy from qualifying, that's for sure. If we can't find a couple quality attacking threats, and some more players capable of owning the ball.. We have reached a plateau and will do no better. Endless heart is a great asset, but it only goes so far.

The Brazil-Colombia game certainly played out like I expected. Little in the way of possession, free-form attacking and tons of fouls. 54 total for the game. To put it in perspective, Brazil had 2 less fouls than France and Germany combined for in their earlier match. Really sorry to see Neymar out with an injury as well as Silva for 2 yellows (pretty stupid foul for sure!) but I think Germany looks to be the far superior team at this point anyway. Looks like Costa Rica is the dark horse in the tourney and they just might make it past Holland today. I'd like to see Messi and Argentina make it past Belgium but it's going to be extremely tough. Messi can't do it alone (who knows, maybe he can?) but it still should be a close and entertaining match.
