So, this is for parents and players.
I find myself losing around an extra 1500 cals not burned a day during this time. I also find myself maybe adding an addition 500 cals in food/bev intake. This is not good. I have to spend an extra 1.5 hours and really, really watch what im eating. I just want to get back into a a damn schedule/ routine.
Now, think about the kids. Getting up and going to school, moving in between periods, and 1.5-2 hrs training HARD a day. This cal burn is all lost. Is your son or daughter training 1.5-2hrs HARD a day??
Plus, I dont know about you all but these damn kids eat like they have been starved. I try to mimic soccer practice but im sure my son burns over 2000 cals a day + during normal calendar 5 days a week.
I have already noticed 4lb gain in 3 weeks. I guess what Im trying to say is be very careful. If your player has gained covid 5-10+ lbs they might not be as fast or may take longer to be "game" ready.
Run them. Push them. Encourage them. So when its time, they are for sure ready.
Anyways, I have to go now. I scored a new IPA and must eat my wings...lol

Opposite here. Cooking and eating at home more, less grabbing stuff on the run between practices.
Of course.. snacking more, so not dropping a LOT.
Kids are trying to do some fitness amd some soccer every day. Its hard, but make a schedule and stick to it as much as possible.

We are fortunate to have a little mini training ground that we created at the house last summer.
M-F, my daughter does Will John's Day 3 workout and 15 mins on stationary bike (30 min workout) as soon as she gets up before starting her school work and then the Beast mode training series before sundown. She also does the TopYa! Soccer app skills portion every Sunday b/c it was promoted by Tophat.
She snacks through the day, but her workouts keep her pretty balanced.

My kids are working out every day. They run most days plus do soccer training daily. I will say that the younger one has great practices but from a fitness standpoint she is not pushed there. Technically and tactically she is well trained at practice. So right now her fitness is better than it was during practice but has lost that tactical training. The older one had pretty low intensity practices so I think she is more fit now too. The older one lifts weights and does core 3 days per week on top of the running and soccer stuff. They both are weighing weekly to make sure there is no weight gain (and hopefully some weight loss for the little one).
We parents are working out more as well. Food at home was great the first few weeks, but got bored (and tired of doing all the dishes) so did some take out a lot last week.
I completely agree that the kids have to do extra training to make up for the lack of calories burned in daily walking class to class. They are walking about 4000 steps per day less than they did in school.

I'm guessing the kids that are walking a lot in school are in High School? Mine is in Middle School and all her classes are next to one another or across the hall, with the exception of 1 Connections Class and lunch. So, being at home is actually better since she is up & down the stairs here all day long.
Overall I think being at home is going to be just fine for us in the long run. I have already lost weight since we aren't eating out. In addition we train 6 days a week, including running and soccer activities. The regular 90 minute team practices were rather laid back, so from a fitness standpoint I think we will be good.
The biggest issues we have are boredom and lack of training with others. There is only so much you can work on by yourself before getting bored and complacent.

Glad to hear everyone keeping busy. I guess I'm the only one. My son normally trains 5 days a week and weekend games so its not even close to the same amount of time vs now. Yes, he trains 6 days a week now but again not of the same intensity as if he was at the club.
We didnt eat out a lot before. Made the 2nd lunch for the car ride. It just seems different now.

For you I think it is a combo that your player plays for AU (hopefully all of those trainings are intense) and many of our kids' trainings are not as good unfortunately. I totally agree that game fitness is different than any training done at home regardless of how hard that you try to simulate the game. What position is their primary is also a determining factor. There is an adjustment period and accessibility of training equipment at home matters as well. I think we all go up and down with how motivated we are for training and eating well (parents and kids) LOL

Yeah agree. It is different. But none the less have to work hard every day. Some will have a greater advantage than others (big yard, equipment etc) Keep grinding, keep fighting.
I know I personally can be doing a crap more.

My daughter is running/ working out on alternate days. Light soccer work.
But our food intake has gotten better. We have time to make healthier meals, of course we don't grab the quick stuff between games, etc.
But we are going nuts trying to find ways to stay active:)
It has been nice eating every meal together though.

Coach allthingsoccer I'm thinking you need to come up with a program geared towards us parents so we don't waddle up and down the sidelines once Soccer is back 👍👍👍

Futsal! lol
OMG the struggle is real. As real as going up and down the sidelines. Monday is when I'm going to join my sons workouts. Please pray for me.
I added an extra 500 cal burn to his daily to we can stem the gain. I dont mind him gaining just need to control it.

2 CB boys, 13 & 15, set this daily routine up for themselves and have been on it 4 weeks now: -Stay focused on nutrition; -Morning: Run 3-5 miles or 60 minutes of cycling; -Afternoon: Upper body resistance training & club-provided soccer skills program but under heavy duress/contact with each other; -Extra activities: ping-pong, soccer tennis, basketball, hiking, Wii boxing; -No TP juggling
