Meanwhile, getting off the political crap heap and getting back into Soccer Land, does anyone know, is DA finally kaput or does it live to fight another day...?

you can look at the model assumptions yourself just off the main IHME page, here: www.healthdata.org/covid/updatesyou're correct to say that mitigation was a parameter baked in iterations ago, but this parameter does change. the model independently weights school closures, non-essential business closures and stay at home orders as three factors of social distancing, state by state. so why do the modeled number of deaths keep changing? first, the 2.2M number you hear quoted is a model outcome with little to no social distancing (worst-case scenario). second, as states independently mandated different aspects of social distancing (think california vs georgia in both scope and timing) the model has been updated. it's also updated with real death data and training sets from europe, etc.. i think the latest iteration is from april 10. it's been updated every few days since it started. notably, the model is now being used to predict outcomes if we relax combinations of those 3 social distancing factors at different dates. the current assumption in the model is social distancing until end of may. given your obvious slant, it's interesting that the model is now being hit by left-leaning media for basically saying that deaths will be eliminated by mid june.

This is the thread where we vent about politics. I think I saw a Daily Wire link. As a centrist, I view that rag as being close to RT and as extremist as Daily Kos.

Unfortunately the thread about DA has turned into a thread about changing the age groups back to school year instead of birth year. So, essentially both threads have been hijacked and gone down rabbit holes. I don't have any inside info, but I am thinking DA is dead. Also, to keep to one of the original topics of this thread, I think the clubs are going to try and have tryouts as regularly scheduled at the end of May - beginning of June. Again, I don't have any inside info. Those are just opinions.

The DA thread did get hijacked about birth year. I tried to hold back, but I just struggle to hold out when I hear people get so fired up about making changes. We need less change, not more. There was a post that was discussing tryouts somewhere "upcoming tryout season." I hope you are right about tryouts. I do not want to have tryouts in the summer, but regardless of when we have them it will be hard on the kids.

Attacking the source as bias always a great tactic...LOL... This is an article written about a former NYT journalist who is going against the grain on the models and questioning them. If you would rather just go straight to the journalist's twitter so you can follow him and his articles go here then. twitter.com/AlexBerensonTo be honest though, that is about the lamest strategy known especially when my post actually says there are no unbiased media sources! Attack the source but not even pay attention to what the article actually said. I sat there and caveated that there is no media that isn't unbiased. The majority leans left, but the rest lean right. There is no media source (absolutely none) that don't have a bias one way or the other. The key is to read as much as you can from any side and decide where the truth lies. So you attack my source even after I told you that all media is biased. So I see who actually reads stuff around here before they go on an attack! You might want to go back and read through my post again. If you had, you might not have decided to go that route on the attack! Do better next time.

When I see a link like Daily Wire (Breitbart, Daily Kos, etc), I assume whatever it is is simply them amplifying their garbage. Extreme left or right. I don't click. If you want to see a good, accurate visualization to better understand historical numbers about CV19, try Financial Times' coverage. They are a conservative outlet based in London. Their data viz guy, John Burn-Murdoch is top notch. Keep in mind this is historical data that shows trends but is not a forecast. The coronavirus coverage is free. www.ft.com/coronavirus-latestOr follow the data viz guy directly on twitter: @jburnmurdoch he updates his charts daily with current numbers

You might want to go back and read through my post again. If you had, you might not have decided to go that route on the attack! Do better next time. Well, let's see where to begin
1. if you don't want your sources attacked.. don't use crappy sources. The one you used.. is awful. 2. As for your 'all sources are biased'.. I'm sure you're familiar with the Overton Window? If not, familiarize yourself. What you claim as 'left leaning' would have been 'slightly right' in the Reagan 80s.. but is screaming, radical left when compared to a website that sells 'liberal tears' coffee mugs on the front page. 3. So.. the actual AUTHOR as a source. Alex Berenson. The guy who you're saying has credibility because he worked (a decade ago) for NYT .. which I suspect you also would decry as a 'liberal rag'? So.. are they credible now that it's convenient? But if it's that guy - he's currently famous for going too far for even Hannity.
He's also the one who wrote a book called 'Tell Your Children' about how marijuana causes psychosis and violence. Even stealing the original title from Reefer Madness. The one that has been panned for .. well.. being freaking stupid and having zero science to back up the bullshizat.
If you want to use a guy who is still claiming weed makes you a killer (and for the record, has zero medical background) as your go-to source for best practices on pandemic response... welllllllll... I've got some soccer fields to sell you.

Let’s talk about PPE. Do you think there will be a day of reckoning for hospital administrators (and politicians) who claim they are indeed well supplied.. while their staff wears trash bags and re-uses masks? Seems like a MASSIVE exodus and/or lawsuits will be coming from health professionals to their employers.

Did you actually read any of the stats he uses to make that claim? He isn't wrong Children and healthy people under 30 have a scientifically insignificant risk statistically. They all have a bigger statistic chance of being hurt or killed by a lot of other diseases and things than covid-19. So again he isn't wrong. I would take it further and say any healthy person below the age of 65 has a insignificant risk statistically of this being a big deal for them either. I think the whole point is we let everyone go back to work, school, sports, and shelter the at-risk people which is what I think should have happened to begin with. Any exception of to the rule for a healthy young person is being amplified by the media to scare people. If you look at the stats for people that did not have pre-existing conditions that have dies from this virus it is statistically insignificant also. I feel bad for people dying, but we take acceptable chances/risks in everything we do driving, flying, eating lesser than cooked food, etc.... It's time to open back up the country for the healthy and the willing. If you are still scared stay at home. On the marijuana front while he does go a bit overboard about pot. The truth is and this is based on my work experience for many many years in the field of drugs, the % THC in marijuana has increased 2-3x fold in most pot now. These high levels of THC can indeed call psychosis and hallucinations and that is a medically proven fact.
