I definitely agree Covid-19 is a big deal, taking lives daily and has shut down big leagues, XFL, stalled NBA, Premier league, La Liga, Champions league, global economies etc and now supposedly USSDA.
While these major leagues shut down for safety reasons, something just does not sit right about USSDA'S reason. Seems like the COVID-19 name drop was cap🧢 as the youth say.
Personally, I think the DA format has failed in achieving its #1 organizational goal of developing world class players.
Post Covid-19 and USSDA, I hope a better, more affordable, less travel and a more dynamic player focus development and promotion based on merit format emerges.
I understand we are far from that but jumping on the next league that takes USSDA's spot.example ECNL is not the answer, just more of the same.
If anything, COVID-19 gives the USsoccer community an opportunity to all come together and try something different/new.
What are your suggestions on post USSDA and COVID-19 solutions to grow the game asbwell as producing world class players.
Probably will not be implemented but even if a piece of your idea reaches to a decision maker.
This is America the Great, we can do just about anything, we just need to stop being our iwn enemies, focus on the youth instead of selfish greed

Unfortunately, we are our own worst enemies when it comes to this. There is a large population of people that have the money and are willing to pay for another league if there son or daughter doesn't make it to the top team in a legitimate, straight pyramid set up.
The "non-profit" clubs (*cough cough*) realize this and are more than willing to take your money to start a separate league that WILL make your son or daughter play on the "top" team. Wash, rinse, repeat... and now you have a multitude of leagues all stating they are the correct choice.
It would never happen, but if there were tight (and I mean TIGHT!) regulations on only recognizing one governing body, and that body handed down a single pyramid structure, you would have more of a chance on seeing the cream rise to the top in a more competitive environment. That would mean shutting out any-non affiliated clubs/teams from tournaments, showcases, etc. You could have an "ODP" style all-star camps to promote players to the YNT's. Those players would be evaluated independently from people outside of the local club structures.
To compensate for the loss of money for the (again, non-profit) clubs not starting their own competing leagues, they could be allowed to receive compensation to players that are selected for a professional league.
This is all just off the top of my head, and can be viewed as a dumb post... but I'm bored and thought I'd start the ball rolling on this, since we have nothing better to do. LOL

IMO the real problem is that assuming your child doesn't make the first team...they won't be trained like the first team. And the 3rd teams aren't being trained like the 2nd team. And if you're okay not being on the first team you need to believe your time and money are well spent. Hence the NEED for movement between clubs (not for WINNING like in the olden days of 5 years ago). If you are getting first team training on the 2nd team, you will create a few first team caliber players, or if nothing else, top notch 2nd team players.
Exception to Tophat though, I think that the top 4 teams get excellent training. Hence why families take 2nd/3rd/4th team spots there rather than 1st/2nd at other clubs. Concorde obviously does pretty well also.

I was looking at things from a 30,00 ft level and things that would change the overall landscape of US soccer, but your suggestions would help at the grass roots level as well.

Also, I think a lot of clubs and coaches are too easy to take the low-hanging fruit of a 'transfer' rather than actually trying to develop someone from within. Take a look at all the top teams around and see how many of them have kids that worked their way up without jumping clubs to make a top team. I bet it's a REEEAAALLLY small number.

All the clubs going under GA soccer or whatever they decide to label the league classic 1, 2, 3, 4, style would be a step in the right direction.

therein lies the question:
What happens with: Lanier AFC
Then Ambush KSA Interatlanta
Sounds like SSA will take a Concorde boys ecnl slot

Also club coaches would promote certain impact players from lower teams if they felt he ir she would help their first team and hence boost club rankings

As a matter of fact, one player on the USYNT, played his entire youth career at Inter Atlanta before he was recruited by AU's academy. A lot of other studs at non ecnl and mls clubs. KSA, Alianza, DDY etc. ECNL and USYS need to partner up and make some magic. Simple math, no need to be so negative or make things so complicated

Going off topic for a minute or rather a random rant-alert: Am I the only one that thinks merging with a club that is 60miles away just seems stupid. Im sure some mergers make sense like GSA-Dacula was reasonable. Then you hear about AFU-Henry County or Concorde-SSA. Maybe someone can make sense of the mergers

Non-DA post COVID rant/questions:
What kind of attrition do we expect from this? Year-to-year after U12 you can expect about 5-8% attrition from the sport (on the girls side anyways). Do we think that perhaps it'll be higher due to more time off?
Is anyone else getting fed up with closed fields/greenspace? Our county allows people to walk on a trail/path, but the sports fields are all closed. Recently the county schools have sent emails about school fields/playgrounds being closed. People typically aren't getting that close to each other on the fields, plus they're not touching the same thing unless playing football/frisbee/baseball. Also, people usually play together with people they're already in contact with/drove with. I saw a woman complain about 2 boys kicking a ball around...and got them kicked off the field.
I'm hopeful we're back up and running by July, BUT...
1000 NEW CASES YESTERDAY IN GEORGIA??? Are you effin serious? 800 today? WTF are these people doing? It takes density for disease to travel like that (and it ain't happening outdoors, I can almost guarantee that).

I'm sure everyone is hungry to get back to the fields to watch little Debbie OR Ronnie show off their skills and win games, but I feel this is a perfect time for all of US to pause a little longer, reset and restart with a clear and longer lasting strategy. Many people are already making their plans on how to rush and patch up existing leagues or start new leagues, which still means leaving others out and more or less status quo. Why not MLS, USL,US CLUB,USYS, AYSL, etc all the way down to rec leagues meet up find out how to do something that will benefit all parties involved, Especially the PLAYERS. Something BETTER than status quo, that does not cost $5k per season, reduced travel, meaningful competition across all the platforms, pro-rel at certain age groups so teams are moving up or down based on merit and opportunities to interconnect the platforms on the field at some point during the season.

The American youth soccer “system” has been built to maximize profit not quality. There is plenty of quality out there.. but a tree of options is not as efficient as an open pyramid when it comes to identification.
