What's your club telling you about status?

We are being told they are going to try to do it if the policies allow.

Just got an email that the league has canceled the summer season. Not at all surprised with everything going on and add in that a lot of the clubs were having issues filling teams back in February. Probably for the best as tryouts will be pushed at least a week back and all.

Just got an email that the league has canceled the summer season. Did that come from the club or some other source?

I got this email on May 4th, maybe something changed afterward but I received nothing additional:
"Good morning,
I hope this email finds you safe and well. I come to you with good news.
SCCL Summer League will go ahead as scheduled. With the spring being a complete rain out, this is great news.
With this being said, I strongly encourage you to start/continue and complete the registration process. Joe Amaya sent all of you a registration invite shortly after tryouts. Please follow this.
If you have any questions or concerns please let me know.
Thanks
Tom Wilson Boys Junior Academy Director SCCL Summer League Director Gwinnett Soccer Academy"

We were told this weekend by our coach that the SCCL Summer season is most likely not going to happen.

I also heard that it wasn't going to happen. The decision was just made this weekend so everyone should hear from their clubs soon

Do you think maybe just maybe the Summer league is cancelled so that SCCL can extend their spring season into the summer to finish it out? I know that may be pipe dreams, but I had heard some rumors a week or two ago about this being a possibility at least from my club. I don't know if they were just shooting ideas back and forth and that leaked out or if it was a serious hope they can do it.
I fully think having some type of organized game and training going on before tryouts would be a plus for most kids. I realize that a lot of players are doing individual training and online training provided by the clubs, but it really isn't the same as being on the field, and likely that is a detriment to many kids at tryouts if held right now.

No, the SCCL Spring season is cancelled...at least from what our coach has told us. A couple weeks ago we were told Spring season was cancelled. The goal was to get players on the field a week or 2 before tryouts, and tryouts were tentatively scheduled at end of May / early June. From there, anyone playing Summer SCCL would play that, and once registration was complete all Fall teams would begin training...in June. As of Saturday we have been told Spring SCCL is still cancelled. Summer SCCL is now cancelled. Tryouts are still end of May / beginning of June, but we will not have organized practice at the fields before tryouts. Once tryouts complete offers will be made and players need to register ASAP. Once the initial week of registration is complete fall practices will begin. This is all coming from our coach. On Saturday he mentioned a meeting he attended on Friday and he was sharing the latest news.

My only question with no getting kids on the field before tryouts that is a bad sign for Fall Season as well. Tryouts are one thing, but games and full training again in the Fall is harder to believe that it is going to happen if they don't get them out soon for training sessions. I know plenty of parents that won't put a dime on any commitment until a decision is made on what if any discount or refund is going to happen for Spring season, and if there still hasn't been training sessions before tryouts, I have a hard time believing people are going to fork over any money for Select/Academy without a guarantee of a refund or partial refund if the fall season is shortened or cancelled. I know I will have a big issue putting up that much money (half of which will pretty much be paid before Fall season camps and training would start) without a guarantee they actually play.

Just got an email that the league has canceled the summer season. Did that come from the club or some other source? Seems to have been well answered, but this came from the Summer coach at SSA: Parents and players, It is with regret that the decision has been made to cancel the summer SCCL league for this summer. With the continuing uncertainty about when we will be able to return to the fields and the task of trying to manage all our programs upon the resumption of soccer activities the league made the call to cancel the season. Registration for Tryouts have opened for the upcoming season and we hope that we will all be out on the fields again soon. As a club we hope that everyone is doing well and staying safe during this time. Thank you,

Seems short-sighted. And again - how would you justify canceling a season that goes from June-July yet hold tryouts?

Seems short-sighted. And again - how would you justify canceling a season that goes from June-July yet hold tryouts? I think that are a couple of ways to look at the comments about tryouts. One is to fully believe there will be 100% normal tryouts at the times specified by the clubs (subject to change notices are posted along with those dates and times fron what I have seen). I do not believe that the clubs will hold normal tryouts at the times stated. Second is to presume that they will hold tryouts in an altered manner such as small groups with no contact, technical skills training only. This is a real possibility in my mind. This is possible to do without violating social distancing and could be done in combination with player rankings. This will potentially hurt some kids coming in from other clubs but likely only if they are lower team players. Final possibility is there are no tryouts at all and all players are registering just so the clubs can see who is interested and will offer spots based only on rankings. Only the first possibility makes no sense if they are also cancelling Summer SCCL.

I bet it gets postponed into June or July. I think having tryouts with just technical skills will be unfair to some kids. Some kids thrive in a competitive environment versus technical drills. I know my kid does. He does better in 1v1, short sided, and full sided games than he does at individual skills type training. I'm sure it has something to do with motivation as well.

I don't disagree with you that it would be unfair. I am just saying that it is possible that they would proceed with that HOPEFULLY in combination with player rankings. If they still recommend social distancing throughout the summer how can they do any tryout for a contact sport? I am not convinced that social distancing will be lifted this summer. I can see clubs wanting to go ahead with some form of a tryout regardless of the social distancing. The only type of tryout that could be done would be technical drills.
