From the looks of it AND not truly knowing which teams will join which division (makes sense that more than just MLS teams will be playing in the MLS Pro division), GA may be the exception. Other areas and states have MLS and non-MLS clubs/teams that have repeatedly produced pros. Can this be said for many Boys ECNL teams? Why did you address these comments to me? I just said, “MLS academies operate at a financial loss”. Nothing about what teams play in what division or pro potential of the league. The MLS already acknowledges that the majority of its clubs do not turn a profit. The spend on academies certainly do not help profitability. Furthermore the league's single-entity ownership structure, requires revenue sharing among franchises and limits individual team and player upside. If they were approaching this from a profit perspective an MLS team owning a second minor league team in an underserved fan base (like Alabama) might be a more productive and profitable approach. Apologies...just quoted the wrong post. However, most of this thread seemed to be taking shots at the new league without knowing specifics. Another post mentioned looking forward in a couple of years and see who got it right. I think if you are happy where your son/daughter plays and that is going to get them the opportunities they want, then who cares? ECNL, MLS, SCCL...I wish all the best of luck.

Remember MLS teams are making no money due to Covid. If $ needs cut, this league is gone. DA went by the wayside in part due to $, same likely here.

You must be new to this forum? LOL Everyone on here complains about new leagues before they start. SCCL was going to be the worst thing ever now the MLS and GAL will suck. If your going to survive on this forum you need to know ECNL and NL are the best leagues hand down and anything Tophat sucks. So if you kid plays ECNL and it's not at NASA/Tophat you are good. LOL

This is where the bosses at LSA and SSA need to show leadership and communication with parents and league. Work out the logistics with the MLS league based on their constituents. First year may not be great but if there is a good clear blueprint and roadmap, things will fall into place. Personally, I think the new MLS league should start at u15-19. Club members of GA top clubs need to challenge their Directors on the boys side to get them in this new MLS league or at least ask for their input before jumping into any league. These are loyal and paying members for goodness sake. They deserve input. This would have been perfect time to do this, but they just do whatever comes to mind. A scenario with all the top GA clubs would have been awesome and less travel. Parents wake up and stop jumping on band wagon. Docs stop taking advantage of well meaning and loyal supporters. ECNL is great and has worked well on the girls side. Boys platform needs leadership and communication from all parties involved. It certainly looks like MLS is taking the leadership role and are looking to work with the clubs in their region based on the press releases.

MLS/USL aside, currently ECNL is at the top of the league pool without a doubt. Below ECNL league order among NL/NPL/ECRL/SCCL can be heavily biased and anybody's guess. Going forward I think is premature to evaluate MLS/USYS newborn alliance in midst of a pandemic and where it can lead to. Potential/dynamics are huge, if merit based can become the best thing we ever had as a nation in youth league play, it might also fail miserably, worse than DA did. Key will be a pathway from grassroots to the very top, organization, and inclusivity to all clubs communities, areas. Also COST will play a role like, play all the best in your own back yard before jumping on a plane. That certainly goes for fully funded MLS academies too as many owners still fail to see the value of their franchise developmental academies unfortunately, and without soccer background they fall into the trap of sport comparisons, and soccer is like no other sport in the world. Time will tell.

Do we know if SSA and LSA are in this league beyond U14? I think LSA in particular will struggle to keep some of those boys in this league for the full year if they have teams beyond U14. Most everybody in the Gainesville area feels strongly about representing their High School, especially if they play for Gainesville or Johnson (some of their boys soccer games get thousands supporting). Hopefully we get some clarity on the specific age groups SSA and LSA have before tryouts and what the options are beyond U14 (if it isn't MLS). Girls side at LSA must feel a little aggrieved, it always seems to be the Boys side that get the new shiny league options. SSA has already announced its only u13 & U14 on their website. Not sure if LSA has done the same "SSA will have teams in the Boys 13U and 14U age groups in this new MLS-sponsored national program"
