Has anyone's player been offered an ECNL spot in the past couple of days? Hearing rumors that GSA ECNL coaches are calling and asking if they can select certain players now, before tryouts. Is that just GSA or have you heard of other clubs doing the same thing? You do realize all of the ECNL team coaches have already reached out to their top recruits and offered spots on their teams? It's definitely not just GSA. I guarantee you that each of the ECNL teams have one or two spots available and as someone else recently posted, ECNL tryouts are over.

Yes. Every ECNL player that they want to keep or acquire has already been offered a spot. This is how it works. Every year. All clubs.

GSA has made some offers but to say all the spots are taken is not true. There are always spots available if you're good enough.
I will tell you that tryouts are in full swing this week though. I've seen lots of ECNL/DA players from other clubs on Zoom training with our team this week. Going to be interesting...

How does that work? Do they send the ECNL players the email with the contract link right away to lock them in with the team?

Kid had spot on team before tryouts. Coach called, said he liked the play and was impressed. By u13 or 14th, Coaches know who the best players are already. Frankly, so do the players. Maybe last 2 or 3 spots are open but top 13 are set.

So curious. UFA Forsyth has ECNL tryouts scheduled for May 31 to June 2 for the older teams. Some that have ECNL and ECNL Composite teams. If the teams are already filled, then what's the point of wasting everyone's time? Are they seeing who shows up, and if the girls are good enough, they have the upper hand for whatever team is just below ECNL before those tryouts begin?

I guess the moral of the story is if the player is an ECNL player they are already on a team prior to tryouts, but I'm sure teams still want to see if there's something they've missed and have one or two slots open to offer. While it sounds like the norm for DA/ECNL, I think this year is going to be different for a lot of clubs. Ambush doesn't have ECNL but they've already announced to the parents that if a player is on the team they're going to be offered a spot again this week, and tryouts will be small one day for new players only. My child will go to UFA's ECNL tryouts(if they're held) to see, and more importantly get out there and really try to compete for the first time in months, with the expectation that the next lower team is still the goal.

Its a normal process of things.
Tryouts they might find a diamond but really to sort out debth and other team alignments.
It's unfortunate that we missed most of Spring so those can showcase improvement and get some extra eyes. However, tryouts are a way to show whats up.
Over 3 months can change a lot of things. We will be able to see who really has been training during this time and putting the effort in.
Good luck everyone.

How does that work? Do they send the ECNL players the email with the contract link right away to lock them in with the team? Sadly, this last week before potential real tryouts begin is the busy window to get verbal commitments. Coaches tend to make offers to new and returning players. In normal pre-Covid times, we would also have the luxury of ID-Camps too. All in all, we know it's near impossible to fully evaluate players over 3 days during tryouts and that's if they stay all three nites. This was also how it was done with the DA teams too. In my experience, coaches will offer spots to at least half of their team, they'll have another 30-40% in mind that will offer(maybe during/after tryouts) and they leave the 10% to those one-off kids that are unknown and WoW during tryouts. Those are the kids who are from out of town, played at some other local small club that no one has seen or even from another country that is more serious with soccer. Good luck everyone...

But as noted above by others, what’s unique about this year is this activity is extending through most teams (not just the top team in the club) this year as clubs are attempting to keep overall tryout numbers on the lower side due to covid19.
