I kinda wonder if some kids who are at clubs not doing tryouts might attend another club's tryouts just for the free training/interaction time with no intention of switching clubs.

The safety of our players remains our top priority. While every player, coach and club is ready to be back on the fields, the reality is that we must continue to adhere to the guidelines of our local government and health officials. As such, for the time being, there are severe restrictions on how players can come and train at the fields. Due to these limitations, tryouts would not be an effective process to assess players and place them on teams. In collaboration Ambush, AFU, Concorde, Georgia Express, GSA, LSA, NTH, Steamers FC, SSA, TYSA and UFA, have all made the difficult decision to cancel in-person, formal tryouts. Have seen this a number of places. I am curious if the above paragraph is correct.

I know this is true. I’ve already talked to families with a players at Concorde, UFA, AFU and gsa that all played SCCL last year that are planning on attending other clubs tryouts because they are not happy with their current spot. As one said, why stay at gsa if you’re not ECNL? As their kid were on that bubble between ECNL and SCCL.

reality to me has always been this -- kids at a current club should never be assessed a their own tryouts. stop playing the game - if a kid at the end of a normal season doesn't know their status - the club has done a shizat job. kids should know they are on the bubble to move down, up or sideways.
open and honest communication from the start -

Good strong possibility. Might go back to old club to practice with old friends and coaches but they will be aware it just to get work in. They will understand because my daughter is in a higher division their hers. We will also let her present coaches know so they are aware

Frankly I will probably take my son to one of the local clubs having tryouts even though I have already have a spot reserved for him at his current club. I really am not doing it for him to change more so than just getting a workout in for free, and also to see what if any kids from his team come to those tryouts as well.

I'm thumbing up the workout part. I typically tell my daughter to start high and make them move you during tryouts. I actually like this intimate evaluation process vs the mass tryouts. More like a real world situation.

They seem to be very slow at updating their website. I don't think I have even seen them mention the MLS Elite league and the fact that is only U13 & U14 like SSA did

LSA has updated their tryouts and will be having 1 night of tryouts for all age groups divided out over the course of 10 days to keep numbers spread out. So if looking to play boys mls or girls NL/ SCCL register for tryouts on website to receive more information on dates of tryouts for different age groups.

Heard the older DPL teams at Tophat were doing small group work this weekend and next week with players from inside and outside the club.

Heard the older DPL teams at Tophat were doing small group work this weekend and next week with players from inside and outside the club. It is my understanding that this is happening with 1st and 2nd teams at most clubs. I am aware of this at UFA, AFU, CF and Tophat. I am sure that SSA and GSA are also doing this. This is all ages. I am aware of rising U10's to U19's. I am not sure if you are talking about prior year DPL (upcoming GA Navy) teams or upcoming DPL (prior SCCL teams) at NTH. If so, add 3rd teams to the list. Plus lsagoalie said LSA is doing small groups. Ambush announced they are doing this. Clubs need to eval new players somehow, so they can say that they will place people based on last year but so many are changing clubs for a variety of reasons. This is how they have chosen to go about it.

A lot of clubs that have officially canceled tryouts are still doing 'smaller number or private' tryouts. Players need to reach out to them.

I am curious if this was the plan all along when they “canceled” tryouts? Basically say that there were no official events but hold small group tryouts anyway. Or, if one group broke ranks and other clubs followed.

No other way to evaluate new kids Even Ambush put out an email before the announcement of other big clubs that they were going to do small groups to assess new players. Later many big clubs emailed the same thing.

So it appears the clubs deciding to conduct tryouts on dates common in past years have strategically put themselves at a huge disadvantage as most top & 2nd teams will already be full by then. They will be evaluating those that were displaced & disgruntled by their club or disengaged altogether from the recent months activities.
