But yesterday, it was back to almost 1000 new cases.... Sure would be great if it is true. But... 1) The GA government data is almost entirely unreliable at this point. From the article: As Gov. Kemp has pushed to reopen, his administration has consistently and repeatedly failed to relay accurate data about the state’s coronavirus epidemic. As the AJC has reported, Kemp’s team has deleted a daily count of completed tests, making it difficult for the public to determine if Georgia is meeting a key White House criterion for reopening. It has constantly changed the metrics it publishes while shifting its method of counting cases, confusing ordinary Georgians. 2) As people get back to "normal" we keep raising the degree of difficulty in keeping spread in check. 3) Knowing that COVID was spreading as early as January in some places in the US, it took 2 months to really go exponential... so I think 3 weeks into "reopening" is a little early to declare victory Anyway, hope it's true, but color me skeptical.

It is very easy to get tests now. Inpatient, outpatient. There is now more than enough test availability.

I could care less about positive cases at this point. The only two numbers that matter are hospitalizations and deaths.
As of two days ago, Georgia has the fewest Covid patients in hospitals than they have had since this began. The 7 day average number of deaths has also stayed pretty stable for the past few weeks as well.
Come tomorrow, we would have been 28 days since things started opening.
While this thing might be very contagious, it certainly is not as deadly as feared, and certainly not deadly to certain parts of the population. Namely children.

I think we all know that while anyone can catch covid, it is the elderly and co-morbidity populations we need to worry about. Kids and healthy parents are statistically safe. Things are shut down to help relieve pressure on hospitals and to make sure little Johnny and Suzie don't kill Grandma. I'm not arguing against the shutdown. However, if you have no contact with elderly or sick people, you probably are OK with going out and playing soccer. Or for that matter, baseball, hockey, gymnastics, swimming, lacrosse or any other sport that has already started re-starting (yes I just said 'started re-starting').
