I just heard SSA lost what most consider its best girls coach JH. He was the guy who developed the 05 team and others. He was also the girls academy director. Does anyone know who will replace him? Will his teams stay together?

I know that Laszlo Halmi is going to be the Girls Director for at least select, I'm not sure if he will be the one for Academy as well. Gareth Evans has taken over all Boys select duties (previously they had SCCL directors, and other directors for other select). Since we are all either NPL/SCCL or the new MLS league there is no reason to have as many directors so they have consolidated a bit I believe. It looks like the academy wide director will be a guy named Richard Myers Here is a list they have so far. www.ssaelite.com/Default.aspx?tabid=179715

If you are talking about RC he is a good coach, good person and will probably make that team even better than it already is.

Why are you all using initials? We are talking about ADULT soccer coaches right?

I've heard his name around ( maybe it sticks out because it is unique), but don't know much about him. Would he be a candidate for taking over the JH teams? I know they were usually pretty good.

He's a tough coach in a good way imo. Experienced, well licensed, demanding, knows soccer. Tells you what it is, which may or may not be what you want to hear.

Good Riddance. Josh was a verbally abusive jerk. SSA is a better club without him.

Good Riddance. Josh was a verbally abusive jerk. SSA is a better club without him. Also vindictive. An academy Player left him to go to another club. Player's Older sibling also left SSA to go to different club than younger sibling. Josh told tryout club of older sibling that player was not a good player and planted negative impression.

I would have to disagree with this. I know a few players over the years that have wanted to leave SSA and he has made calls and helped them land on good teams at other clubs. Even sending them to his direct competitors. He has taken several back after short stints at other clubs didn't work out. Josh is an outstanding coach and has single handedly built the girls program at SSA. He is more passionate and dedicated to his teams than any other coach for sure at SSA and likely at most clubs. Is he perfect? No. Do you need a thick skin? Yes. He is a love him or hate him coach. But I would guess 95% of his players would give anything to keep him. His teams are dedicated. He hasn't lost many players over the years, even when SSA had no leagues to offer them.

As a coach he is great. I've never had any complaints about his coaching style or the way he treats the kids. As a director, he isn't the greatest admin guy. There are definitely better directors. I will tell you this though. Most of the coaches that are good directors as far as admin stuff tend to not be good coaches on the field and vice versa. So it is what it is. I don't have anything negative to say about his coaching though.

He hasn't coached my kid since the early Academy days, so I can't comment on his style because in early academy I think the boys or girls dictate that more than the coach does given their young age. I have not actually ever watched one of his older team's games. I just watch his training sometimes when I'm on the field. I know he doesn't lose a lot of girls from his teams. If I had to guess he is a lot like most of the SSA coaches. They want you to play out of the back, but sometimes when the opposing team players are cheating forward a good direct route sometimes keeps the other team honest, so that you can actually play out of the back. He does like possession, but given the different skill levels of different teams, I would imagine he tweaks what he does with each team based on ability like any coach would. I do seem to remember him getting pretty irritated at keepers that just punted a lot instead of trying to play out of the back, so I would say playing out of the back is his first priority.

Yeah coaching and directing are separate things and finding someone who does both well is hard for many clubs.

Above is correct - 5% of people don't like his style, the other 95% are all in. He was always fair with my kids. SSA's loss. Actually seemed to care about his players.

That is true for most good coaches, the majority like him while the minority complain.

Yeah coaching and directing are separate things and finding someone who does both well is hard for many clubs. ...and being a likable coach and being the “best coach” are two different things. JH is one of my favorite people in the world, but even SSA had better coaches.

Who are some of the better coaches there at SSA? Jordan Davis, but since he has taken the college gig, he doesn't coach many teams anymore.
