Assuming the responsibility of school teacher, guidance counselor, nutritionist, trainer, coach, 1v1 partner, goalie, soccer agent and performance analyst over the past several weeks on top of normal parenting responsibilities helps me confirm something. Trust, respect, and confidence in your child’s Coach is of utmost importance as an extension of the values we all try to instill in our kids.
I think that it is of utmost importance that the coaches we choose have similar morals and values to what we try to instill in our children. This is even more important than the 4 letter team, club or badge on your shirt.
That being said I am curious to see some statistics:
1 - Number of club players (girls/boys) who go on to play in college and beyond
2 - Number of club players who quit in their teen years
3 - Number/percentage of club players who actually make it to NWSL/USL/MLS/National team
4 - DOC compensation
5 - Head Coach compensation
6 - Coach compensation
7 - Average starting salaries for pro (NWSL/MLS, etc)
All in no particular order.
In recent weeks I’ve talked to young coaches who were rising stars in both club and college who are back here coaching and struggling to get by doing private sessions, and I also met a girl who never set foot on a club field/tournament but is a natural talent who was discovered and will attend a D1 college this Fall. Obviously not the norm, but interesting and good to hear that this still occurs while parents with the means to do so debate on forums like this about the next big team/squad or how good or bad a particular coach is. I’d wager that 90% of our children won’t continue to play beyond high school but it’s certainly enjoyable to participate in the debates!
Can anyone point to some statistics that don’t require signing up for a membership to read?
