I disagree, unless UFA got a lot of trickle-down, they're no better than AFU or Concorde Premier. Average ranking from 2019-20:
CF PL: (6,3,1,1,1,1)/6 = 2.2/11 = 20 GSA: (11,1,8,3,2,2)/6 = 4.5/11 = 40 CF PR: (7,9,3,7,9,6)/6 = 6.8/11 = 62 AFU: (9,10,4,6,7,5)/6 = 6.8/11 = 62 UFA DA: (6,3,7,7)/4 = 5.75/8 = 72
Add to this the fact UFA DA 06 and 05 tied AFU head-to-head.

A lot of changes with these 08 rosters since last season. No way to accurately assess until they play. CF & GSA likely at the top for ecnl

What are the UFA rankings? Their standings in DA?

I’m not sure about player movement this year, but based on last year here is strength of teams: 1. Cf premier (assuming that will be SSA team) 2. Cf platinum (Very close to Ssa) 3. Gsa (not far behind cf platinum) 4. Ufa 5. Afu (unless they made added some players will likely struggle in ecnl) Edit: this is for 08 girls of course

Yes, UFA rankings were DA, hence why I divided their place by # of teams.
And again, AFU's place was generally equal to Concorde Premier (neck-and-neck). And if you consider that CF Premier (and UFA) have better players, then one could argue that AFU must have better coaches to have them playing at the same level.

They were only talking about the 08 team so how are the rankings for the older teams even relevant? After all the roster changes are significant at this age group as they went from 9v9 to 11v11. Plus coaching changes. Plus the influx to clubs from outside the clubs (even from smaller club players looking for ECNL). Add in any NTH players that moved. The ranking of last year's results of older teams is no longer relevant especially given demise of DA, shifts at NTH and going from small sided to full field.

1. GSA (Bigger, faster, stronger than most. Big field will be an advantage for them) 2. CF PL (9 new players with a couple good additions) 3. CF PR (Good base but lost some kids. Maybe to CF PL?) 4. UFA (Mid Table NPL team) 5. AFU (never has been a super strong team)

Would love to see them all have friendlies with the 08 TH team. They sure are grateful that ECNL didn’t grant TH ECNL this year for this age group...😏

The GSA South team in the age group last year was good and they picked up some new players at tryouts. Add in a couple top players I believe are joining from GSA North and they are going to be really good.

My money is on CF platinum. Garvin Quamina picked up that team after doing wonders w/ the 02s (who graduated) and the 04s. He's a great coach/trainer and his teams play beautiful soccer while having great success. Both 02s and 04s goal differentials were off the charts. He's also the guy who trained AC of ATL U daily as a child and even while at ATL U.

It will be interesting to see how the season plays out. Based on the talent at clubs I still give the upper hand to GSA but then again I don't know who all the new players are on the CF team. 9 new players could mean a completely different outlook for next season.

I appreciate you are relying merely on what you heard. Based on observation and facts, however, he is top shelf. His 02s have not added a significant kid since u14 (and lost a couple to TH DA at u16) and have rolled every year. If I recall, in 3 of the last 4 years they have been eliminated at nationals by the team that ultimately won nationals including a final 4 appearance. I think if you ask any of those 02s, including the Stanford, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, etc. kids, they would say he's the best coach they've ever had. As for the 04s they've rolled too. It would be interesting to see how they do the next couple of years in nationals. Recruiting wise, they are doing great. He's extraordinary at all levels. You did hear right, hell of a trainer as well. The 08s pulled off a coup that they got him.

Yes, I do not have any personal experience with him so he may be very good and may be able to do some good things with Concorde's 08 PL team. That's why I just said what I heard which did come from some of his club colleagues (coaches) and from others outside of CF (coaches) but all messages were consistent. I have no opinion of him good, bad, or otherwise. I personally am looking forward to seeing all the teams play this season and see what they look like with the player changes this crazy "tryout" season. I have seen his 04 team play before and they seem to be a good team. I am just curious for the 04s where did those kids play for their younger years? How many "originated" at Concorde? Also, are you familiar with the current 08 roster and do you know where the 9 new players came from for this upcoming season? Also, this is not one of those questions that I know the answer to before asking and trying to start some kind of debate. I am only curious.

While where they came from is a legit question I have started to feel like some people (not necessarily you) are very hyper focused on this issue of kids coming from the club and staying there the whole time. I understand this issue of wanting development in the club and kids staying at a club the whole time there are many reasons why an older team might have kids from other clubs come in. Some of these are because we want to keep the little ones generally close to home for their academy ages and will weigh location more heavily. Some of it may be coach driven. You can love your club's development of your kid for a long time and then choose to leave for another club because you just got assigned a coach you don't like. Again this is a bigger issue for the older kids.

I think Oraclesfriend makes a good point. To be frank, I have been one of the folks who has raised the issue of when the kid entered the club. However, this was always in response to the consistent barrage of PR from a certain club that they are the "development club." When a couple kids switch to a club at u14 already in the national pool and then score 70% of the goals for their new team, I think it is disingenuous to claim that the new club was the key to development and it is the "club" that is so great. Not saying that the kids didn't improve at the new club and the club is not good, but the PR always went way too far. Deduct a 15 goal scorer from team A in first place, to team B who in the middle of the table, and I guarantee team B will suddenly appear to be great at developing kids too.

Again this is a bigger issue for the older kids. I agree. My thoughts are at younger ages stay with a club that is close to home assuming you have good options and they are focused on individual skil development. As they get older that same club may not be the right fit depending on the players goals. For the vast majority of players I don't think club movement is a necessity but for a relatively small percentage club movement is probably needed. I would be very surprised if any very successful club teams (success for this post = high D1 college signings, YNT invites, high level league) are made up of players who matriculated through their ranks from the beginning of their playing days. I attribute that to there being a large pool of players all funneling down to a few teams. The probability is just not in the favor of the majority coming from the origin club or even from the same club. I don't think that takes away from the club's focus or ability to develop players or shows that they are more interested in looking outside for the next shinny thing it is just numbers and the competitive nature of it all. I will say that I do think some clubs do a much better job than others at young ages focusing on technical, individual skill training so soime of these teams might not be as diverse with multiple clubs as others but even with those clubs I think finding the majority originating from there would be an anomaly

There was a lot of movement from the past season tot his upcoming season. It is very hard to know which club is going to have the better team. Example: UFS has put Alan Woods on the age group and I am pretty sure he has recruited players in so it will be a very different team from last season.

He is one of the best there is. He teaches technical aspects and develops his players very well and breaks the game down in away girls can understand whether they are U9 or U19. He motivates- but is tough and has very high expectations. The girls live playing for him- that being said I think most of the posters predictions are correct and it’ll be GSA/Concorde fighting for the top spot in the 08s.

I have said before here on the forum that IMO he is the best youth coach in Atlanta. The thing that makes him so good is he has seen it all playing himself at every level all the way up to MLS and the mens national team and has away for imparting this experience to the girls is a structured manner holding them accountable but having fun at the same time. I know our daughter wouldnt have gotten to the levels she has without him. That being said it will take him the first part of the season to get the girls to understand his system, but by the second half my guess is they will be giving all the ECNL teams a run for their money.
