With all of the soon to be budget cuts for public and private university and colleges that will happen in the next 12-18 months, what do you think the recruiting landscape will be over the next 2 years or so will be. Most colleges are restricting travel expenditures (not only for COVID 19 but for reducing budgets). I know USG has stopped travel for the next fiscal year and athletic budgets are taking a huge hit, especially if they have to reduce ticket sales to adhere to some sort of social distancing for revenue producing sports ( football, possible basketball in winter). Do you think large tournaments will go to livestream games so coaches can recruit virtually? How many parents are going to pay "Disney" like prices for those type tournaments if colleges aren't actually there?

USG?
I think coaches will still be at games. Maybe less. They'll just have to pick carefully which ones they attend.. and watch lots of video otherwise.

But also keep in mind that the Athletic Dept. budgets are on a completely different track than regular academia and research. So the rule is college and sometime sport specific... Side note: I honestly think colleges and the coaches will have to be very specific. Cross country recruitment and scouting will be drastically reduced. Major showcases will still be attended to get the most bang for your buck. This is one of the reasons i'm waiting to see what the new GAL league will do in regards to their showcase(s). If I were them, I'd schedule it for the days right after an ECNL national showcase, so that the same coaches who are already in Pheonix/Texas/PDC/etc. can just extend their trips by a couple more days. I also think colleges will do more regional scouting since it usually just involves driving a few hours as opposed to flying cross region/country...

Thanks for the USG comment as I was also in the dark. Not a Georgia native and don't generally think of Georgia's colleges and universities as one entity. I have heard that GA showcases will be similar times and locations to ECNL. All preliminary of course. Nothing definitive has been stated. I think that ID camps will become more important (though this summer will be a bit limited there are some late summer camps still scheduled). I think video will also be important. I feel for all of the juniors and uncommitted seniors. It is going to be tough!

Since there are not many soccer opportunities for boys to stay in a Georgia, the college landscape got even harder to navigate. I have an upcoming senior and his recruiting got to a halt. Most colleges won’t be attending any showcases in the fall.. they will be busy tending to their season. My guess is that kids will be signed early fall based on being seen last year, or not signed until late next spring! It’s rough!
