www.atlutd.com/post/2020/06/18/atlanta-united-player-tests-positive-covid-19Atlanta United today announced that a First Team player has tested positive for COVID-19. The positive result was confirmed today following mandatory club testing. No additional staff or players received a positive result. In response to the positive test, Atlanta United medical staff have continued to work directly with local infectious disease specialists to treat the player, who was asymptomatic and has been observing isolation protocols since receiving the result. The team, along with club personnel who have been reporting to the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Training Ground, were informed of the positive result immediately. The team will conduct testing tomorrow morning prior to resuming training in adherence with MLS health and safety protocols. Since Atlanta United began individual player workouts on May 6, the club has followed MLS health and safety guidelines, including proper physical distancing and sanitization during individual workouts, small group training sessions and full group training sessions. The club will continue to work in close consultation with the CDC, local health authorities and Major League Soccer regarding testing and training guidelines.

I wonder who that first team player is. That would determine (in my mind) the severity of this report. If it was an older first team veteran, this could be the death knell for the rest of the season... if it was a younger player (for example - a player that may have had trouble with other players wives in the past), I would say it might be due to irresponsible behavior... either way. Yikes.

Those around the program who know already knew who is infected. He's quarantined from the rest of the team. But IMO it should not matter who it is. I think we should afford him and his family the privacy and space to recover and rejoining the team. I know there are HIPPA LAWS in place to protect him but it's only a matter of time before someone blabs...

People will just observe who isn't at practice. I've got a good guess but someone will say for sure pretty soon.

No shame in this and let people work through this crazy pandemic the way they need to for themselves and their family.
