Too much time on my hands, but thought someone might find this interesting... TopDrawerSoccer does a top 150 top players list. Its a major accomplishment for any Georgia players to make this list. Here is the 2023 list along with current club (fall 2020) and academy club. Place | Name | Current Club | Academy Club | 3 | E Shores | Tophat | Tophat | 14 | K Staude | Concorde Fire | Tophat | 34 | K Mallory | Concorde Fire
| Concorde Fire DDY
| 64 | J Dudley | UFA | Georgia Rush
| 70 | S Sabo | IMG Academy | Concorde Fire
| 81 | S Springs | Concorde Fire
| Concorde Fire GSA
| 114 | A Ross | Concorde Fire
| Tophat |

And I think S Springs played Academy at GSA Thanks! I plan to look at the other graduation years in the coming days... I'm interested in knowing if there is a club whose academy is responsible for great players (as measured by topdrawer)...

I know of a lot of kids who played at more than one academy. Plus adding the current club also skews things. Like Dudley played for Rush from U13-U16, right? So she changes this year to UFA at U17. How much credit will a club get for U13-U15 or so? Interesting idea though.

When a person gets a new job, does the former employer get “credit” for their development? Or does the person hone their craft and get “credit” for their advancement? I know it wasn’t necessarily the point to disparage the destination clubs, but it happens a lot on here and often the player simply outgrows what the club can offer.
Ever look at the back of a baseball card? We don’t need stats, just age/club/league and we can all do the math. For fun:
2012/2013, U6, club X, rec 2013/2014, U8, club X, rec (playing up) / jr academy 2014/2015, U8, club X, jr academy 2015/2016, U9, club X, academy (playing up) 2016/2017, U10, club X, academy (playing up) 2017/2018, U10, club Y, academy 2018/2019, U11, club Y, academy 2019/2020, U12, club Y, SCCL 2020/2021, U13, club Y, ECNL... assuming this season happens 🤪
Then you can decide if this is thanks to club X/Y, in spite of club X/Y, or just part of a player’s youth career progression.

I mostly agree with you... Yea I was not thinking about the whole destination club debate. I personally believe parents have more to do with player development than clubs. Clubs play a major part. However, most parents that I know on top levels team actually commit resources for player development on top of the club practices...

I’ve been thinking about the who-gets-credit argument for a while. The chart led to a baseball card which led to a slight hijacking 😀

Top drawer list is so flawed anyway not worth a debate

What makes you say it is flawed? Of course there is a degree of subjectivity involved in any kind of top player ranking, but in the age groups I know (several age groups) the rankings seem pretty reasonable.

I predict J Dudley will quickly move up on that list now that she's in ECNL. Rare talent.
