Ha -- first ever homegrown for a club, and it's the coaches kid -- really...... I agree. Seems a bit self-serving.

Why? He seems to be truly talented. AU has poor record with bringing up players. I guess the open roster spot will allow another signee with big expectations to disappoint later.

He seems to have played well with the 20s in qualification. Doesn't seem to play well with the first team, unless your name is Longshoe, who loves every AU player. He thrived with the 2s scoring, but hasn't really produced this season at all. He needs to move on somewhere else where he is going to play and actually touch the ball.

Get out before the league decides to prevent it. Edit… The more stories I hear or read about MLS and how they handle young player selection and player pay… the more I think it really is just a real estate investment trust. When the goal is parity the result is mediocrity. GTFO if you have the opportunity. On one occasion, Egner added, “We got pushback from the league office when we wanted to bring in a USL player to our MLS team. He was on an independent USL team. And we got pushback from the league on that and we were gonna pay a transfer fee and it was minimal.”www.azcentral.com/story/sports/soccer/rising/2022/06/24/why-so-rare-usl-players-make-leap-mls/7527892001/(Sorry if the paywall catches you)

Good article rifle. Thanks for sharing. MLS was set up to be a monopoly, like MLB or the NFL. I thought for a while, when the MLS second teams were in USL, there would be an agreement and we would start seeing more “promotions” like the MLB farm system…when MLS Next started, I realized that it was never going to happen.

AU keeps bringing in talent from South America and they’re not better than kids playing here. If our whole system wasn’t so screwed up (parity focus for billionaire protection, pay to play with the best gaining the privilege to travel on airplanes and stay in hotels for back to back events) it could be really good. Open the pyramid and get out of the way. Sadly, it’s just not gonna happen because MLS (NFL) goons own the federation and it’ll continue to protect the status quo for the benefit of a few.

Kid hasn't played in an MLS games since April 3rd. I'm assuming the coaching staff watched some tape of his previous performances. www.atlutd.com/news/atlanta-united-loans-tyler-wolff-to-belgium-side-sk-beveren

Yeah major issue for sure. Said that ZERO academy can play top level, very limited academy play in USL (5 games max i think), and from what I read (not sure if true) but ZERO NCAA players aloud in the "new U23 MLSNextPro" cluster !@#$
Crazyness not allowing NCAA players to play.

The mlsnextpro 3.0 is totally off the radar. honestly wouldn't even know it exists.
USL actually has some exciting games to watch, league isn't that bad....
watch out the 2s are on a tear 1 win, and 2 ties in their last 3 games -- that' some world cup quality stuff right there.... The win was against the battery, who have recently become one of the worst teams in the league.
For what it was worth lots of mls players were rostered on ecnl teams in the 19s age group at ECNL nationals. seems to be a common phenomenon now across the land.
Seems the best run the AU academy had was in year 1 and year 2, with the 17s winning the title and I think the 19s won the division back to back, but never advanced at nationals. Keep in mind those were other clubs players.
I still firmly believe, too much talent and way to many quality coaches in this city -- if and when I'm in charge of AU's academy, I immediately drop all ages less than u15.
