While ECNL is the way to go today, is not good enough and based on swallow foundation that is profit based and short sighted. While there will be few exceptions, many MLS franchises have indicated they will not be investing in youth development with a grassroots plan no matter what some say in theory with the USYS partnership, only few promising players here and there and through ODP or modified programs. Long term I believe in USL to grow to become the destination leagues connecting youth with adult soccer, the place to develop players of all ages to the highest level and be the main feeder for the European leagues and the MLS. They are the best hope for something different and better, but this will take more time than the current HS players have.

They are the best hope for something different and better, but this will take more time than the current HS players have. Quite possible, especially in light of the cut backs in major college programs that would spark a higher need for transition between HS/Club and Pro, but USL will take a long time to grow to the point that the majority of people can feel the difference. How long will depend on relationships and it might be the right way to go based on today. But for now ECNL rules, and, we do not know whether they will have grow to the adult level in the future if the times dictate to keep control of the lucrative youth soccer business. And given the pool they already have with MLS youth academies involved in ECNL, it can get interesting given the several MLS Reserve teams already in USL.

Correct me but did I hear that the USL has plans to fully have games with fans in the stands?

Correct me but did I hear that the USL has plans to fully have games with fans in the stands? “With the release of the USL reopening schedules, many of the clubs announced that the matches would be played with fans. Stadiums will be open at 50 percent capacity for the remainder of the season, making it the only American sports league to be restarted with fans.”

It’s risky (to have fans) but most USL teams rely on gate revenue to stay solvent.

On the Dos (ESPN 2)-Birmingham V Memphis Good to see Tim Howard again. Fans in stands-many with masks on. Social distanced seating.

With AU, the Benz can work with 15-20k fans (if they open all of it), masks and taking temperatures at the gate. Some fans with the virus but without a fever will get in, but will be fewer. And will be harder for them to spread it with masks on, social distancing and hand washing.

Actually watched some of the USL game on espn last night --- looked worse than a high school soccer game. Ball was constantly in the air, bad first touches, first touches and not opening up, ball getting stuck under players feet, horrible give aways in the final third. maybe I turned on a bad 15 minute stretch, but it wasn't good. I still enjoyed watching it though because it's soccer - it was hectic which somewhat made it entertaining. I just didn't see much patience or anyone who felt comfortable on the ball.

[ For the most part I agree... Although saying it was worse than a high school game is a bit much.
