When I hear a FdB say he didn’t want to share too much so his players wouldn’t over think it, I’ve got to wonder if that’s true or if he was simply out of (good) ideas...

When I hear a FdB say he didn’t want to share too much so his players wouldn’t over think it, I’ve got to wonder if that’s true or if he was simply out of (good) ideas... I took that to be a swipe at the players that he didn’t think they were smart enough to process lots of information. Instead, he had to keep it simple so they wouldn’t overthink Edit—smart is probably not a fair word. It is more that he did not think that the players had a very high soccer IQ.

99% of the people said the hire wouldn't work given his previous stops. Even with the 2 trophies last year, the product was beyond boring. I always equated it to the option in college football, I don't want my team to be play traditional option football after having success with the spread or air raid. Whether you like Atlanta United or not, team was freaking so much fun to watch. They were electrifying, win or lose they brought it. Deboring clearly never appreciated the earlier style of play. It's just scary to think that if this team had success in Orlando, he would have remained on as the coach. It never was a good fit -- period. Ehh I don’t care for them and have never really enjoyed watching them play. It just reminded me of bad soccer. And with all the info coming out it’s sounding like AU is going to be the Marlins of 97 and 03. Lil bit fire sale, lil bit injury/age losses.

With all the flack FdB is getting, the same criticism should be brought upon Eales and Bocanegra. They are the ones who hired him.

Good work if you can get it. Time will tell if he goes the way of Alexi Lalas (fail upward then fail some more) as an MLS exec.

When exactly do Earles and Bocanegra get held accountable for this? FdB is no longer there to kick around. Same poor performance as before.

When exactly do Earles and Bocanegra get held accountable for this? FdB is no longer there to kick around. Same poor performance as before. As much as it pains me I have written the season off. The Nashville match was Pity playing up to the expectations we've had all along and do what Vela and other DPs do almost every weekend. That was it. Let's face it this is the weakest AU team ever rosterwise and otherwise. It takes months or years to build a top notch team which only takes little time to destroy. FdB and the front office destroyed this team to the point neither Glass or few players can fix. I doubt AB will touch the front office before 2022 for a number of reasons. But they will need to somehow find and bring a heck of a coach who can also attract great players for the value allowed in the MLS. It will take a Tata type coach and recruiter in other words. European market is too expensive, cut throat saturated, and anyone coming from there at a reasonable price for MLS standards is most likely not good enough. South American market, Asia and Africa has the hidden jewels and the undervalued players. You just need someone who knows the market, like Tata did. It's also the chemistry with current players. For that reason South America is a safer bet.

This team was destroyed by the decisions to get rid of Nagbe and Gressel. Losing Martínez was the final blow. Too many USL level players. FDB’s style was a poor fit for the team but the front office saddled him with garbage this year. Sir Alex Ferguson in his prime could not salvage this train wreck of a roster.

Shocking first half in my opinion. They made Orlando look like Barcelona.
Better play in the 2nd, but too much to overcome. Missed dangerous play call for sure.
Gressel Might not have been worth $750k, but he was one hell of a player here and top contributer.

Thankfully at a game during the first half. Caught the second half on the XM driving home. It sounded like a very physical game-lots of cards.

Orlando is improved but AU has fallen in the ditch. Every AU possession still looks like they’re thinking “back pass” as first second and third option. They should improve with familiarity among the new guys but this is hard to watch. Somebody said they may be Soccer’s Florida Marlins...

Rifle Said, “...Somebody said they may be Soccer’s Florida Marlins...” I hope not. I don’t think Uncle Arthur will put up with it. I do wonder how long the higher ups at Atlanta United will be allowed to pass the buck.

What do you mean you don’t think Uncle Artie will put up with them making him millions while he just sells off assets and doesn’t have to invest in them. He’s been doing It with the Falcons for two decades.

Wisdom says if it ain't broke don't fix it. We had such a good thing going and now this ... shame. But it was broke. You lost your star coach who did everything and then you lost your star cherry picker scorer and then you lost core players because you didn’t want to pay them. You must be new to Atlanta sports.

DeBoer said they listened to Argentine music in the locker room...
Were they listening to Tango? Lol
Or was it just latin music and hes classifying it as Argentine music? If that's the case, he was really out of touch with the players and their culture

You lost your star coach who did everything and then you lost your star cherry picker scorer and then you lost core players because you didn’t want to pay them. You must be new to Atlanta sports. Who was responsible for the decisions made, including the decision to hire FdB? The front office. Keep in mind they did not even bring in Tata. Tata came to them with his plan in place and DP list. This does not look like Atlanta United anymore, and few good performances this year won't change that. It's the front office that set the bar since day 1 and got us all excited when words became action. They have the 2021 season to prove they're worthy and was not all Tata then, if the team starts to look like Atlanta United again. It's the job of the front office to figure out how, but I think hiring the right coach would be a great start, along with few picks (new coach should absolutely have a say) that bring quality where we need it the most, and value to the club by performing above their cost. New to Atlanta sports? LOL

Probably not -but 3-4-3 switching to a 3-1-6 would be fun to watch.
