LOL - we're not playing a preseason tournament in GA so I really have no dog in that hung. Hope you get your games in.
Here's somehting to break the silence - Refund Policies of all upcoming tournements (I have been on the worlds most boring Webex all afternoon - -this multi-tasking project kept me sane). Interesting though how some tournaments state they will give half back and others just say 'NO REFUNDS'. Even GA Soccer does this with Atlanta Cup -why is precedent set to keep half the funds for something that doesn't happen? It's been that way since we've been playing so any insight on this practice would be great. Anyway - for your reading enjoyment - the refund rules of all upcoming GA tournaments from their websites:
CONCORDE DUE TO WEATHER/ACT OF GOD Once accepted into the Challenge Cup, there will be no refunds. This includes reasons of inclement weather, poor field conditions or any Act of God. Payment of Registration fees Once accepted into the Nike Select Cup, there will be no refunds. This includes reasons of inclement weather, poor field conditions or any Act of God. If your check is returned NSF, you will be charged an additional $25 fee.
SSA Neither the Tournament Committee, Southern Soccer Academy, Group Housing, the Tournament Sponsors, or their agents and representatives are responsible for any expenses incurred by any team in the event the tournament is cancelled in whole or part, or in the event games are discontinued or cancelled due to inclement weather or adverse field conditions. In the event that the tournament is completely cancelled due to weather or other natural cause, teams will receive a partial refund of their entry fee. The actual amount will be determined once tournament expenses and other charges have been deducted but will be at least 50% of the entry fee. If the tournament has commenced, and a team has played at least one of its scheduled games, no refunds will be issued.
NASA The Tournament Committee, and all sponsors and organizers, will not be responsible for any expenses incurred by any team or club. If the tournament is canceled in its entirety due to inclement weather or other “Acts of God” approximately one-half the entry fee will be refunded. Refunds will not be issued for any other reason.
UFA NORCROSS The Tournament Games Committee (TGC) and UFA - Norcross shall not be liable for expenses incurred by any team or club if the tournament is cancelled, postponed, or suspended in whole or in part due to reasons beyond the TGC’s control, nor will refunds be issued. The TGC’s interpretation of the rules will be final.
RYSA The Tournament Games Committee (TGC), or Rockdale Youth Soccer Association shall not be liable for expenses incurred by any team or club if the tournament is cancelled, postponed, or suspended in whole or in part due to reasons beyond the TGC’s control, nor will refunds be issued. The TGC’s interpretation of the rules will be final.
TOP HAT The Tournament Committee, and all sponsors and organizers, will not be responsible for any expenses incurred by any team or club if the tournament is cancelled in whole or part, nor will any refunds be given.
ATLANTA CUP Refunds will only be made if the tournament is cancelled due to weather or Acts of God, but approximately one half of the entry fee will be retained.

Tournaments keep some of the funds to cover overhead costs. They may take the hit by making no profit from the tournament, but certainly are not prepared to lose money on it. Keeping 50% is usually enough to cover all costs and possibly make a small profit.

You just can't make everyone happy. (Or anyone happy... ) Just because games aren't played doesn't mean clubs haven't worked months in advance.

When a club puts in the "Permission to Host" for a tournament GA Soccer is REQUIRING verbiage in the rules which deal with weather / refund policy.

I know that - I just find it interesting how some clubs will state they'll give back half and others (concorde) do not. I'm sure putting on a tournament isn't cheap - but I find it very hard to believe that a club would have already spent half of the entry fees prior to the games being played. The bar has been set, though with RYSA and the old Norcross club promising 100% refunds so I'd like to see more of that.
