Dead period now through September 30 so there will be no coaches at ECNL or other competitive league events in September.
Dead period likely to be extended for the rest of 2020 with the pac 12 and big 10 seasons already cancelled

So much for those big showcases. This is really going to suck for all those kids who want to play in college.

Oh I don't know if it will definitely be to the end of the year. They only extended it one month. I think it will depend on what happens with the cases.
Regardless of whether the showcases will be well attended, if they happen it will still be a good game experience for the kids. After all most of these kids still have a ton of development time left. It will really hurt the class of 2021 and somewhat the 2022 class, but much less so 2023 and 2024.

Well I heard a lot of boys were deferring their enrollment for the fall and shooting for next season. I guess if you just take a few classes locally it doesn't make you a transfer student etc.

Thankfully she was seen by her wish list schools the last 3 years... However quiet period is preventing the ability to meet in person with some schools to narrow down options. Some schools dont want to give full offers without the official visit. Oh well... We will just need to innovate...

My apologies if this has already been discussed or mentioned:
The Division II Administrative Committee on Friday decided the division’s quiet recruiting period will end Aug. 31. Division II sports will resume their normal recruiting calendars Sept. 1...

I don’t understand the difference in the dead period time (if you play any other sport than football). It will be a huge advantage for DII and III if they can recruit and make offers while DI can’t!. So do you risk holding out for your dream to play DI or go for the safe bet and lock in during fall? These seniors have been punished enough!!

I commend her for looking into and having an open mind to options other than D-1/Top-25 or bust. The sad truth is not all players will get a D-1 college scholarship. Little Jane Dough who is killing it today, may develop into a phenomenal player who gets the pick of her schools or may get burned out and choose to ignore scholarship offers and walk away from soccer after high school. I think as parents, we need to set realistic expectations for our kids and have them keep an open mind. Last I checked, Emory, MIT, Vasser, NYU, Johns Hopkins and Carnegie Mellon are all Division III soccer schools but are phenomenal Academic Institutions which I think could give you an upper leg in life after soccer...

I wholehearted agree. My oldest daughter plays Lacrosse at a D3 school in Ohio while going to get her Pharmacy degree. She has had a wonderful experience. She thought she would have to give up Lacrosse after high school because of her desire to go after a top notch degree but with the D3 programs the offseason is not nearly as strenuous as at the upper divisions and she still gets to play and be part of a team. The coaches understand that they are there for the education so when there are things that they have to do for school they are more understanding. Also she has had several teammates who didnt want to continue for various reasons and since their finances were tied to academics they didnt have to worry that they quit. Before our 2nd daughter committed D1 in soccer we had her look at all the levels because of the great experience our older daughter had and it helped my 2nd daughter in understanding what was important to her and I beleieve she selected a smaller D1 school because of seeing all these other great options out there.

We are primarily looking for schools that have decent soccer programs along with good music programs because she plays the upright bass and piano as well. Carnegie Mellon is so damn expensive though.

Sadly, it is quite expensive and also a tough school to get into(not implying your daughter can't get in). Getting a spot on the soccer team could pave the way from an admission and a scholarship/grant point of view. They do have a sizable endowment that would allow them to hopefully offer her a package that will ease the sticker shock. I can't remember, but their "endowment/student ratio" is upwards of $175,000+ Good luck...

One thing on many of the private schools is while their "book" rate that they show on their website is unbelievably expense at least in our experience with my older one and the offer my 2nd got was that there was a lot of academic money to reduce that book rate to something at least a little more palitable.

Div 2 Dead period appears to be over. Can anyone confirm this for sure? Web search showing no articles about it being extended and I found one that appeared to confirm that they can recruit normally.
Dare we hope that D1 will allow theirs to expire and return to normal recruiting at the end of this month? Showcases might actually happen? We were told not to book flights for showcases yet just in case D1 extends again. Thoughts?
