Results: all the girls had fun and were happy to be playing again. Wrong. Some coaches are idiots and not realizing these are friendlies with unlimited subs and still only playing kids 10 mins a game.

Some coaches are idiots and not realizing these are friendlies with unlimited subs and still only playing kids 10 mins a game. That is unfortunate. I hope those kids get some playing time soon. Parents feed into this by trying to determine quality of teams by using friendlies as a measuring stick. Especially given COVID and the new players most teams have they need time to gel/learn their teammates maybe even new positions. Coaches should use this time to get good evaluation of all players on the team as well.

Agreed. Some coaches only care about winning. And unfortunately those teams kids end up losing in the long run. Especially depending upon the style of soccer being played. Good luck to all and hopefully the children will grow and learn from these experiences.

For those wondering, although there are some late games still to play, Tophat GA Gold and Navy generally performed really well. I think(I would have to go back again to check), but 2 ties, 1 loss, and all the rest are wins. All in all a good start.

In other words, they did even better than I thought! And ignored the “no more than 6 goal differential rule” while also not playing subs more than 10 minutes. But good job. While the no subs thing may have happened in some instances ( I have no personal knowledge of this), it wasn’t universal across teams. And there were a few that went over 6 goals, but not in every instance. There was a lot of good soccer played this weekend. And I’m not just referring to TH.

I watched some games aside from my kid's and seemed like most teams were subbing a fair amount. I feel sad if that did not happen for some kids. I saw a few high quality teams from different clubs. There were some obvious rusty moments for players but I also saw some impressive skills as well. It was good to see the kids out on the field!

Obviously, the main purpose of the pre-season/friendlies is to get every kid on the team solid play time and start getting the team into form. Nothing should be read into these games because it is the time to experiment and let the kids get their sea legs--especially this year where they haven't played a game in 6 mths. I would note that for the past 3 years, one of my kid's team played friendlies against a team at the bottom of the table and they tied. That team would then go on social media and talk trash. However, in the ECNL season, we were undefeated (6/0) with an average goal diff per game of 4. So, the smart teams are getting their sea legs for the real matches.

It was great to see the kids out playing again. Several lopsided scores but good to get some games in against someone other than your own club.

I also will say that I was very pleased to see the Tophat 07 teams do well this past weekend with all the upheaval they had during the "tryout" season. Between the two teams (Gold and Navy) four wins in four games.

CSA got beat bad by Tophat in three age groups but were competitive in the others. Even the three age groups (08, 07, 02/03) that got beat badly by TH were competitive in their other match/matches against the ATL ECNL teams they played. For the three age group blowouts (08, 07, 02/03s) those TH teams pretty much blew out both opponents so results probably are more indicative of those TH teams being pretty good rather than the CSA teams not being very good.

Tophat 04 and 05 gold GAL did not have a great weekend but that’s to be expected as they are 2 of the groups where girls needed to move for college exposure
Atlanta fire continues to struggle
CESA should quite honestly not even be a ECNL club

Tophat 04 and 05 gold GAL did not have a great weekend but that’s to be expected as they are 2 of the groups where girls needed to move for college exposure Atlanta fire continues to struggle CESA should quite honestly not even be a ECNL club 05 Gold had a 3-0 win against SC United and drew CSA. 04 Gold lost 2-1 to CSA and beat SC United 4-1. You are correct that both of those teams lost a lot of players from last year, but those losses were made worse by recent injuries. 04 has had 2 recent long term injuries from what I heard and 05 had one knock as well. The 07 Gold team did very well despite losing a lot of players from last season. While 05 and 04 Gold did not have a great weekend they were not outclassed either. They held their own or better. CESA had some very good teams out there. I watched the 06 team play UFA and they looked amazing. I am not sure why you think they don't deserve ECNL. They did decently this weekend.
