AFU being AFU. Results not surprising. Glad we left when we did.

Wait, pull back, WTF is this "exposure" to AU, and what is it really worth anyways? 8 homegrowns in 4 years? They sign on average 2 a year, and what kind of contract is that financially? How long is it guaranteed? I would guess that former college players drafted in round 1 play significantly more minutes. I'm surprised that as many parents are willing to hand their children over to the combine that is professional sports at such a young age. As many with experience have stated on here, AU is looking for 1-2 stars per age group, the rest are simply fodder for the system. If your kid doesn't step onto any field and simply "shine" as easily the best player, they're not really what AU is looking for. Otherwise more meat for the grinder. I'm sure there's far more than 8 stories of crushed spirits and confidence, wanting to quit the game, etc...and in between, the ones who last in the system who are usually fortunate enough to get a college scholarship. I accept that college may not be for everyone, but it does separate the wheat from the chaff far better than getting a contract at 18. Additionally, a couple years into college, they're men compared to 18-year-old boys. The difference mentally, emotionally and physically between a college freshman and senior is undeniable. And as far as LSA offering "free to play" in their U13-U14 MLS league for U13 boys whose families have already paid to play in ECNL, sounds like KSA-type tactics. Will be interesting to see what AFU does with this, but in the end, it just doesn't matter. I think it helps the resume. Great resources for sure. You are looking at the small picture. 8 homegrowns in 4 years isnt that bad for being a baby pro club. Plus, they have over 30 players (D1) that are still HG eligible. Do you think the #8 HG signer (16 years old) would have gone on trial with ManU if not at at AU? Fast forward another 4 years, I personally think you may have 3-4 HG a year coming out of the program, not to mention well over 90-100 HG eligible playing in College. This is just the beginning of something great. Plus, you represent the 5 stripes. Huge honor. What will the club look like in 20 years from now? Meat for the grinder?? Not sure I agree with that. Sure 1-2 a year get signed by AU straight from Academy. 16-18 years old. So out of the U17 and U19 age group (40 players) 2 get signed. So you have a 5% chance. Last I checked thats pretty amazing. How many get signed from club currently? Plus over 30% go to D1. I think the odds are greater of D1 and Pro if you play for AU but as you know many paths to go pro. High School, Club etc... Yes, AU is not for everyone. Some make it, some don't. I get where some parents want to "measure" vs an AU team. My son was one of them. "Balled out" vs them and got retained the following year. Yes, talent pool is very strong in GA. Lots of choices. I just think its a great honor to represent the club. Great experience and exposure for far. We have had our ups and downs but thats life and the goals havent changed. Pro path, College to Pro, or College/Degree.

@soccerdad76 Please help me clear up a misunderstanding I have. Is the u13 AFU ECNL boys squad that lost 8-0 and 7-0 respectively over the past weekend the same squad you have been talking about? Is this the same squad you said were having their ECNL experience undervalued because AU is not in your age group and that’s two less matches for you? Is this the same squad you said wouldn’t be able to get any exposure to AU because they weren’t in the age group( I believe you gave it a thumbs down)? I’m just asking because I know this can’t be the same squad🤔 not the same squad... my son doesn’t play at AFU, just have opinions to toss in from time to time like everybody else 😀 Son’s team played SCCL at u12 and beat the “top” AU team once and lost twice.

Wrong. The 08s played Atl United twice last fall as they AU played U12s in Ga Soccer too. Fair enough, forgot about the 08/09 GA soccer team. I was there that match scorlines to ATLUTD 7-1 9-0
