Well didn’t take long, not even a month into the season. Players from AFU’s ECNL have left to go join Lanier and their MLS league teams.
Yes players who played in the Concorde tournament and ECNL friendlies literally left their teams mid week for new ones. All without AFU approval because they can with both leagues operating separately.
Get your popcorn ready, it’s going to get interesting!

That is crazy! We suspected that there would be issues with the schedules being so different.

They all essentially paid their way in

Go look at ECNL results. GSA boys far outperform AFU especially at older ages.

Looks like Inter Atlanta 07 Boys pulled out of Piedmont League to join the MLS League.

UFA has 5 teams or more in every U13 and up age group except one. AFU has 4. This is for boys though same for girls.

Don’t players/families have to sign and commit to paying fees for a full year? How are these folks able to get out of that commitment? Is it as simple as just refusing to pay the required fees?

Yep, make the month to month payments and decide to quit. The commitment is either to USClub or USYS/GaSoccer so as long as they aren’t playing for the club you can’t be forced to pay. It’s essentially like quitting basketball to play hockey.

My son could have played for both mls teams. Was recently offered inter altlanta mls spot so I decided to use this as a teaching moment. I asked my son what do you want to do? At first he said he wanted to go and then he said dad I committed to my team already. This is precisely what I wanted him to realize that when you give your word follow through. We will all have temptations and offers in life but there is an honor in keeping your word.

And I don’t know, it maybe for LSA but i think this could have opened up a door for Inter Atlanta to poach too.

Meanwhile no one seems to even know or care that SSA has MLS at all ages U13 - U19. It seems most of their existing players don't even want it.

JJ and the MLS LSA 08s got their reality check today. Losing one game 3-0 in preseason does not really mean anything. But I don't really like the poaching, if that is what is happening. If parents/kids are making the decision themselves for other reasons then I have no complaints. I agree to an extent on commitment but this year is unusual with no real tryouts or altered tryouts. Sometimes things are not the way they seem.

I know plenty of kids on the U15 and U16 Boys upper teams that want it. U15 MLS is essentially the former DA team and the U16's are essentially their NPL team. I have heard no rumblings of mass exodus or any issues at SSA. Probably shouldn't spread rumors.

If paying your full freight at one club to get a release and then paying full freight at the new "elite" club is poaching.... ok. I don't agree with acronym hopping or jumping ship and not honoring your commitment but if parents are paying, it's not poaching. It's a consumer-action.
Anyway, maybe something was happening at the previous team and parents/players needed another environment. Unless you're tied in, you don't really know the story.

They were told they were moving to the new league after they signed contracts and made payments. Where else would they go at this point?
