And to think it was only a 2 goal deficit at 58 minutes.

That part to me doesn't makes sense Wouldn’t that make him about the age Beckham was when he joined MLS?

Yes, I can see Messi not wanting to be part of rebuilding. Who wants to do that at 33+ years when you're used to challenging for Europe's biggest prize. At Man City, he'd be at a championship caliber club ready to win now, and he'd be paired back up with Pep, who just loves to wax lyrical about Messi. It would make business sense to play 2-3 years for City and then move over to their US affiliate club NYCFC to "retire" but at the end, work a deal like Beckham to own a piece of the burgeoning MLS league.
With all that said, the facts still remain, his family absolutely loves it in the Catalan region of Espana, where the weather year round is very welcoming. He has the ear and attention of Barca and they pay him some ridiculous amount weekly that many clubs would be lucky to have as their entire club annual budget. Is he willing to walk away from all that moola? He has history at Barcelona, beginning as a 13 year old La Masia resident (talk about homegrown) who was helped with his medical issues and was given a real chance to thrive. The one unknown for him is also looking at his frenemy Ronaldo, who many say is not happy about the decision to leave Real Madrid for Juve. Would he really be happy leaving Barca for Manchester? Plus, let's not forget, Man City is feverishly trying to get Thiago Almada, who many have said is the next Messi...
I give it a 75-25 that he stays, with the option to change my mind as more information becomes available 😛

I hope he leaves. They have shown Suarez the door and he and Suarez are buds. It would be hard to gel with a whole new group of guys...might as well do it with a coach you love (in Pep) than with a coach that you don't have much of a connection with. Besides he has been malaligned for only succeeding in La Liga and wouldn't it be great to do well at City and flip the bird at all of those detractors. City's players are mostly in their prime and have had time to master Pep 's style. Yes, Messi should go. He has been loyal to Barca for a long time and has more than paid them back for the medical issues they helped him with. Living in England for a few years won't kill him or his family. It will be good for the kids to be moved into a new culture.

Messi would do well to end his competitive career at Man City and then come to the US for that fat one year retirement check.

Funny but loyalty works both ways. I have found "loyalty" in today's soccer business to be quite "flexible". Messi gave to Barca and also took from Barca. Suarez also gave to Barca and also took from Barca. Not comparing the two players of course, but look what Suarez has accomplished for Barca also. Barca wants Messi but not Suarez anymore. Suarez was shown the door after a phone conversation with new coach that lasted less than a minute. Nice way to show a player the club's "appreciation" ... But it is within club rights even though Suarez still had a year in his contract like Messi. The new coach also had a brief chat with Messi wanting him to stay, but it did not go over too well.
Barca's leadership is the issue and has been for some time. Rough times are coming for the club until there is a change in leadership. It won't be pretty in Catalonia. Messi has every right to exercise what is in his contract and go where he wants and he's wanted. He's earned it after all these years. While he might finish his career in the MLS in 2023, most of all, he wants a World Cup with Argentina. WC is in Nov 2022 in Qatar and will surely be his last. For that reason I can see him trust his buddy Pep to keep him in top form both emotionally and physically until the WC and Man City's deep pockets to even bring someone like Neymar as well and try win UCL, EPL and FA Cup. They might just need to sell 2-3 players for the financial fair play (what a joke) ...

That’s the $700M question...

Messi seems like a chump and has never struck me as being the smartest in his class. A soccer savant yes but not too much common sense. If he wanted to leave all year, the. Why didn’t you notify Barcelona before the June deadline? Also, who doesn’t tell their family, hey I am thinking about moving what do you think? He changes his mind because his wife and kids start crying because they don’t want to move? I guess Dad’s happiness is irrelevant 😂 Anyway, his camp look like they can’t read a contract and weren’t about their business.

Shockingly dumb business move for Barcelona. Sell him now and take in $100M+ for new player acquisition or wait a year and watch him walk away when the contract expires.
He clearly wants to go but he is trapped. I think his agent is his father (who probably represents only Leo) which is probably why he fumbled this entire situation.... Bummer all around honestly. His heart will be out the door and he will probably score a goal per game anyway.
