One of our resident 'totally not a qanon follower' trolls posted some stuff here yesterday about how only 6% of covid deaths actually died from Covid"
The post is gone now, but - Oops!.. turns out it was, in fact, more qanon garbage.
Yes - this is a soccer forum.. but seriously folks - this should be a CLEAR lesson in how social media is spreading misinformation. To paraphrase Jonathan Swift (often wrongly attributed to Twain or Churchill) - the lie travels halfway around the world before the truth can put its boots on.
BAD INFORMATION was posted on here, by a user, as if it was fact.. CHECK YOUR SOURCES BEFORE YOU SPREAD GARBAGE AND ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM.

So you decide after a moderator obviously deleted the post to continue posting about it? Why not send it in a private message to the person that made the post to begin with? How good of you to continue posting something that no one knows what the heck you are talking about. Bravo....

This thread is educating people on the fallacy. The Qanon post is the poison, this thread is the cure in case someone took the poison knowingly or unknowingly. *edited* That you can't recognize that fact is something you can work on, starting with rereading the original post in this thread.

The point was to maybe bring some attention to those who tend to hit 'forward' before engaging their critical thinking skills.
Maybe, just maybe, someone will pay attention enough to check a source before posting.. not just here, but everywhere.

Not trying to get in the middle of a message board flame war. I didn’t see the post so not sure exactly what it contains or if it twisted data. However, according to the CDC (and once I get on my laptop I’ll post the supporting proof directly from the CDC) only 6% of recorded Covid deaths died of “only COVID-19” The problem is this is a number in a vacuum. Essentially what the CDC is saying is that 94% of deaths recorded have comorbidities. So if there is already lung disease, diabetes, obesity, hypertension, etc., the challenge is what did they die of. All of these conditions are highly susceptible to respiratory distress, heart failure, pneumonia, etc. So in this case what did they die of? Was the underlying conditions responsible and Covid just helped to exacerbate medical trauma? That’s the biggest issue with this illness. It’s an opportunistic killer. While I’m not a doctor I’ve consulted in the healthcare field. Still have a lot of friends/professionals across the country. This is an illness, in my opinion and the opinion of some pretty well respected healthcare workers, that we will have to come to terms with and figure out how to move forward towards normalcy.

The media has done everyone a disservice by not presenting facts. Even this Forbes article is more of an opinion piece (which I’m not familiar with this writer, it could be his job to write opinions/editorials). And this is happening on both the right and the left side of the aisle. Lots of agendas. Oh and Twitter is the worst thing to happen to the world.

Comorbidities are a factor in a lot of deaths, but does that mean that the cause of death IS the comorbidity? No. The same thing happens with many infectious diseases. The information that only 6% of the covid deaths happened to people without any comorbidities is reassuring to some of us (like those without comorbidities) but it really does not change things much. Geez, do you know how many people in the US have hypertension or diabetes or obesity? Or all 3? Lots.
Some on this forum make it sound like they are happy to cull the herd by letting these people just die.

The great news is that we’ve gotten much better at treatment. The terrible thing is we failed very early on protecting our most vulnerable - our seniors. It’s a tragedy what happened in NYC as well as early in Washington and other states. As far as culling the herd, that’s where we probably disagree. The problem is that people have their opinions that probably won’t change and when someone disagrees it seems to invoke the worst case reaction like “OMG you just want to shut the economy down forever” or “OMG, you want everyone to die!” Personally I feel most people are in the middle but this has become such a political subject that rationality is thrown out the window for many.

Yeah I'm not sure why some of those Tweets were deleted or where the "misinformation" aspect is coming from, but the bottomline is that only 6% of the Covid deaths in the U.S. are listed as ONLY caused by Covid. The other 94% had other medical issues. I haven't seen anyone dispute this information since it was published.

Over 10% of Georgian adults have diabetes apparently. Probably over 30% of Georgian adults overall have a co-morbiditiy (obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, COPD, etc).

Yep-many (60%+) of the deaths are diabetic. If you have high blood pressure, get it under control. Much less risk than uncontrolled HBP. if you are obese-get out and move-you will increase your chances of surviving. * See MAYO Clinic website.

MEGA Tranfer News: Credible reports have it in a three team deal, between Juventus, PSG and the Catalonia team Barcelona that would reunite Messi and Neymar and finally bring about an opportunity for Messi and Ronaldo to finally put their skills and talent up against the best in the world. Teams plan a live streamed press conference within the hour. For more info on the breaking news, see: www.latlmes.com/breaking/messi-neymar-to-join-ronaldo-1

It was a very feeble attempt at trying to get us back to the topic Soccer and away from pie charts, testing numbers, percentages of the potential of infections if you turn left or cough to the right and blink 22 times which as we all know will now be reported on Social Media which is universally agreed as the bane of our existence...

Ugh, I wanted to see Messi in the EPL.
Back on the topic at hand, I came across a pretty good documentary on USDA/obesity/diabetes/etc (I think its on Prime) called "Fat Fiction". It was pretty eye-opening (for me).
Twitter and Facebook should be shut the eff down.

I posted a factual statistic as supported by many who posted after me. Do a search and you can find news agencies on all sides of the political spectrum reporting what I posted. It's not some Q story.
Please know that I do not want anyone to lose a loved one as I have very close family members with comorbidities. We work as a family to ensure their safety. That's our responsibility not our neighbors.

It's not some Q story. What you posted, intentionally or not, was a misleading statistic that had been twisted and amplified by Q-related twitter feeds. FWIW.. there's a LOT of passing around of stuff on facebook and twitter that people share, and have no idea where it's sourced.. and a lot of it is coming from those lovely corners of the internet. A huge chunk of the anti-mask stuff started with qanon crap.
Also.. the story is pretty well blown by now (not that it will change any minds). There isn't some high-ranking government official. He's an ex-pat helicopter mechanic who moved to the Philippines to run 8chan.. because even 4chan wasn't welcoming enough to a particularly unsavory segment of society.

Your stat is correct and valid. I think people are making too much of it and reading too much into it, but it is a correct stat. It basically means that 6% of people dying had no known conditions that contributed to the death. So if you are healthy and have no known medical issues than you have a pretty statistically insignificant risk of dying from covid-19. The bad thing is a lot of Americans (I would dare say even the majority of Americans) have medical conditions such as obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, pulmonary issues, etc... For instance I have genetic/hereditary HBP and have had it since I was in my mid 20's when I was in shape. I blame my dad's genes, but it is in check so my risk just based on that factor alone is still pretty small. I also am considered "obese" by the charts. I am barely in that range and only need to lose like 10 pounds to be considered "overweight" instead of obese. I am in otherwise good health, so I doubt the 10 extra pounds is going to raise my risk so severely that I need to shelter in place. Now if I was 300-450 pounds and severely obese I would be worried about it.
