Super Y Adds U10 & U11 Age Groups
Elite national league to offer greater development opportunities
Super Y League News Release
Monday, August 11, 2014
TAMPA, Fla. – The Super Y League, currently in its 15th season as one of the top youth soccer leagues in North America, announced today that it will add the U10 and U11 age groups for boys and girls, beginning in 2015.
The age group additions have been made in response to continuous feedback received from Super Y clubs looking to improve their foundation for developing players.
“The Super Y League has spoken with its members and responded accordingly, providing an environment that will help acclimate players to the demands of the league as they progress,” said Brett Luy, USL Senior Director of Youth League Development. “By involving the players in the league at a younger age, they have a chance to develop so that they are adequately prepared for the next level of competition.”
The new age groups, which will see teams competing in a regional schedule, will provide younger players with a taste of Super Y League regular season competition in an 8 v 8 format, without the added pressure of trying to qualify for the Super Y League North American Finals.
Participating teams will enjoy reduced travel requirements and participation fees and will be able to focus on development, not results. Super Y League partner IMG Academy, host site of the North American Finals, will also provide educational elements for players, coaches and parents in the new age groups.
“The Super Y League’s goal is to provide clubs with an experience that is unparalleled in youth soccer,” Luy said. “The league shares the growing passion for player development and realizes that in order to be elite, clubs must play in an elite league.”
With a sanctioned Olympic Development Program (ODP), a partnership with GotSoccer, experienced and professional staff, advanced player tracking, and the chance to compete for a North American Championship, the Super Y League is the best operated youth league in North America, allowing it to stand above the competition.
The Super Y League ODP provides the players selected with the chance to train, compete, and interact with staff coaches from all three divisions of the NCAA. The combination of high-level coaches working with the top players in the league makes for a truly unique experience for all involved. Hosted at IMG Academy, the players are exposed to specialized training in mental conditioning, nutrition, and the college recruiting process.
