I’m sure a lot of our kids played in the NTH tournament this past weekend. It was great to be back out there but boy was it HOT. Lots of good soccer this weekend though despite a prolonged layoff.
Anyone watch any particularly good matches? I saw a lot of good ones but thought the 06 girls battle between NTH DPL and Roswell SCCL teams was a good one. Roswell came out on top 1-0 but it was well played on both sides.

The one thing I wanted to say is that although the parking lot needs to be repaved badly, I do love how easy it is to get in & out of there, your car can be right next to the field and it's one of the few parks I can remember how to get to without needing Waze every time. Only negative is that the bathrooms are a ridiculously long walk from fields 1 thru 3, which is where we were all weekend. And yes, it was very hot although it was nice Saturday morning - cloudy & cool. I'll bite my tongue on the referees . . . . . .

Both of my daughters played in the tourney and definitely enjoyed being back out. Their teams didn’t do as they would of liked but it was definitely a time to try things out. I also caught the 06 DPL vs Santos game as they played on the field next to us. We got to play both NTH teams. In my opinion DPL team looked to control the entire match but couldn’t score. Their defender gave one bad ball and gave up one of Roswell’s only shot. I guess that’s the beauty of the sport. We lost pretty bad to the DPL team on Sunday.
The u12 top group also had some good games that we caught glimpses of.
I agree with Dunwoody dad, the refs were consistently a bit off. Someone was saying that the better refs were working ECNL games. At the end of the day, seeing the kids play and have fun was the biggest take away.

They made it to the finals and lost to Santos 1-3. SUPER HOT GAME! Santos plays possession well. My daughter is the starting forward ... broke through their defense a good amount of times but the goalie either caught it or ball went slightly wide ... we'll see them again in Nov though :-)

You must have missed the second half 😀 There were definitely ebbs and flows in that game and NTH DPL looked to have control the first 20 min and had several good chances to score but didn’t finish, middle of the game felt very even, last 15 min Roswell had tons of chances and pounded the D and the goalie. Overall I felt that Roswell started slow but ended up controlling more of the match. But if I had seen only the first 20 min I would have agreed with you. I had no real ref complaints this weekend.

Congrats to you guys. I think you will have a successful season.

Figured those games would be fun to witness! I've said before the 07's, 06's and 05's Santos teams will finish in the top 3 of SCCL-C of each age group. It's their top teams but given the size of the club, they'll be tough outs this season! Congrats to a fun weekend of soccer.

One other game that was a battle was the NTH 02/03 DPL versus UFA premier in the blazingingly hot championship game yesterday. Ended up going to PKs and UFA won 4-3 but well-played game I heard (I missed that one) from multiple people.

USSF changed the recertification process last year and made it stupid hard - online only and poorly done, as everything with USSF. They also redid the certification levels, penalizing experienced referees who want to stay at the local / state level and not play the political game. Just not an attractive path for many any more. Until clubs take charge of referee recruiting, training, and mentoring with a DOC level position, it's not going to get any better.

Our 07 team played on the turf at Hubert Park. Saturday morning was nice, but after that it was blazing hot. I would say Hubert is a nice little park, but those 11 v 11 fields are definitely small. I even saw a coach walking out the size and he just stood there shaking his head afterwards.
Our refs weren't terrible, and honestly I am just thankful there were 3 for every game.
One thing missing was a trainer at the park, and I can say one was definitely needed.
Overall it was a good weekend with some good competition.

My daughter is a ref too and sometimes had to tell her teammates to demand the CR's make the defense step back during free kicks whatever # of steps. Reffing 101.

Just builds up and gets insanely hot.

My oldest had two tournaments there last August on back-to-back weekends and it was brutal.

Hot is an understatement. We were at Mud Creek and by Sunday the heat waves coming off the turf were waist high and cleats were melting. Props to the refs were making sure the water breaks were taken.
There was some GREAT soccer coming out of all the 06 teams. Talent really runs deep in that age group.
