“[Shane] Pulliam, LaGrange High’s boys’ soccer coach, was enjoying a day at the beach in Florida when he got a notification that caused him to do a double take.
“I was sitting there fishing, and I decided to check my email, and all the sudden I was like, I just got coach of the year,” said Pulliam, who has wrapped up his third season as the Grangers’ head coach.
The United Soccer Coaches organization selects coaches of the year at each state in the country.
In Georgia, three coaches were recognized.
Ryan Sutton of Peachtree Ridge was named the large public-school coach of the year, and Brendan Murphy of Marist School was the private-school coach of the year.
The small public-school coach of the year, meanwhile, was Pulliam, who has been in the coaching business for nearly three decades.” -LaGrange Daily News

Well deserved and long overdue. Shane is a "player"'s coach who cares more for his players' long term overall personal and soccer development than his own current professional success based solelely on any win/loss stats as a coach.
He was my kid's assistant HS coach. When my kid went on to play at college, Shane would later travel hours to attend my kid's game, as i am sure he did with other of his former players.
Shane was not only a coach for "just a season", but a "support coach" for a player's life.

I find it interesting that he received the award after a partial season where no coach had any real achievements upon which to be judged. If I were the suspicious type, I’d wonder who nominated him.

I know lots of guys who have been employed for 30 years whose work history doesn’t favorably impress me.

You’re the one equating length of career with accomplishments. Maybe I’m throwing shade on you.

You’re the one equating length of career with accomplishments. Maybe I’m throwing shade on you. That’s perfectly fine-my point was that whomever decided to give him the award didn’t have just a partial season to go on. You aren’t impressed-however, you aren’t the one handing out the award.
