Taylor Twellman was on his high horse questioning training compensation to youth clubs where it is pay to play. He clearly doesn't understand all the nuances of the finances of youth soccer. I like Taylor, but he quickly will change his tune if for example Audi is a sponsor, he'll pump what they want him to say......I get it Audi sponsors the MLS, so he had tweets and ads praising them donating the MLS youth academies etc.... MLS youth academies DON'T NEED AUDI'S MONEY --- THE LOCAL SMALL CLUBS DO. I think this espn article might have re-fueled the conversation again, but below is a very good response to his tweet as well "Still waiting on the correct answer to why clubs who charge $1,000’s in fees should be compensated?!" -- I recommend you click on the tweet to read the response. www.espn.com/soccer/major-league-soccer/story/4146199/how-has-mls-gone-about-implementing-its-new-adherence-to-training-compensation-and-solidarity-payments-nothing-has-changed

The Rosevelt Soccer Club could not have encapsulated the issues better, IMO.

Not a fan of Twellman whatsoever. A blowhard and virtue-signaler to his core.

I coach at a small, volunteer run club with no paid positions.
Only people we pay are referees.
It's not easy, but can be done.

A blowhard and virtue-signaler to his core. I really don’t care for any of the former USMNT commentators. Alexi Lalas the troll being my least favorite. Regarding training compensation, I think it absolutely should be paid as an incentive to do good work. It can be a lot of money. If a club was paid to train a player that signs a pro contract, simply refund the parent as a reward and turn the remainder over to the club. A great way to recognize clubs doing things well rather than just being good at aligning themselves with the right league. Tangible results > empty words. Always.
