I don't think ECNL will be as successful as DA was in the past. Even though ECNL has expanded in the past 2-3 years, it does not have as much competition that DA had. ECNL would be a lot easier to make than DA in my opinion. Look at CF a few months ago! Their top players would go to DA THEN ECNL. I don't think ECNL is going to be stable in the long run. MLS NEXT would provide more competition.

The top end of DA was very high obviously. Consistently teams were stronger across the board - and their was a "standard" of play etc. Very rarely did you play a team that just punted every possession.
Most clubs were not in position to join with MLS early on -- they couldn't risk the unknown commodity. ECNL was a known thing and there was none of the rumors about playing march to October.
Only time will tell, I would think over the next few years, you might see teams play in both leagues if feasible. ECNL on the boys side has the travel spot on for the south east division -- very limited travel, no florida travel (accept showcases etc).
If mls next wants teams traveling all across the southeast on a weekly basis, I don't see clubs buying in.
If i was an mls club, broken record, I'd get out of the business of the young kids - getting rid of it would suck when trying to help reduce pay to play...
Whose the best current homegrown at Atlanta united -- Bello? - Bello came from Ambush and SSA (at younger age I believe). Clubs in this city are doing just fine "developing" young kids.
side note: I saw a handful of kids this weekend at some ecnl and even sccl games that can play the past 2 weekend-- there not on anyones radar right now...

Long punts, speedy runners and size was evident in U13-14 ECNL games, as was the envelope handed to Refs before the game. 🤔Nevertheless I think it’s always good to be tested. In DA everyone seemed to play with the same development quality. ECNL gives an impression it’s about winning a championship over true player development. Time will tell if good, well rounded players get recognition or if focus is solely on winning medals. Just great to get out of the house and be on the fields again!

either way -- both needs some help -- the boys ecnl webpage and app have been pretty much useless.

Too many teams. Just another watered-down league

I don't follow closely so forgive me if this has been discussed. What is long range plan for ECRL? is the plan for this to become the second team at larger ECNL clubs?

Do you know what GA cup is? MLS Next is also going to provide that occasional faraway match against one of the MLS clubs. That will provide a lot more competition than non-MLS clubs.

Will ECNL implode? Highly unlikely. Why? Because its a for-profit business. DA ran a 10 MILLION dollar deficit its final year, plus it costs the MLS clubs money in tuition. Many MLS clubs don't even WANT to have academies because they cost money without making money, there is very little ROI. Will see how long the MLS clubs are willing to keep it up.

Well, if the MLS clubs make homegrown players, then they get money.

I don't think people understand some of the benefits of DA, one major one was the financial aid they awarded players. These fees essentially helped cover registration and travel expenses.

I do not believe the size of the ECNL club matters. ECRL is designed to be a competitive league for the second teams at ECNL clubs. They are popping up all over the country, but will most likely never come to the Atlanta area because we already have SCCL. The larger clubs here in Metro Atlanta created SCCL, and control it, so more than likely they are not going to water it down by sending their second teams to another league...unless ECNL wants to buy out SCCL, lol.

I hear you on SCCL...But things are kind of screwy. For example, UFA and SSA have ECNL (1) - NPL (2) - SCCL (3). Concorde, AFU, and GSA have ECNL (1) - SCCL (2). Tophat has their 4th team playing SCCL. It seems to be an inefficient allocation of teams/talent...
It would be nice if each of the big 5-6 clubs had the same hierarchy where their 1's and 2's were n the same leagues, respectively, with smaller clubs putting their top teams against the 2nd of the big clubs.

You now have the majority of top players in one league whereas in the past they have been split. May not hold for other areas but I think it does for Atlanta. Why you think there is less competition or less stable I have no clue?

Just some data to chew on for the boys oldest age group:
Best team in Atlanta including DA Squads
2018-2019 KSA 01's won National Championship (won every scrimmage against DA teams) 2019-2020. GSA 01/02 ECNL team was the best team in the country before it was shutdown.

GA Cup is an MLS exclusive tournament. Yes once the round robin series are done and depending on the age group you do play European and Mexican teams in the finals in Dallas but it's also limited to just the U12s(MLS only), U15s (4 team for finals) and U17s currently. My question, directed at an earlier post of yours is what are the metrics you're using to determine success or failure
soccerbro I think once ECNL gets things settled with the new formations and the adding or even the dropping of certain clubs, they will turn their focus to building up the ECRL. Look, if the DPL can sucker NTH into being their third team then US Club Soccer(who runs ECNL/ECRL/NPL/SCCL) could mandate a hierarchy too. ECNL first, then ECRL second and finally SCCL third. That would streamline things for AFU/CFx2/GSA/UFA the only SCCL teams that would be left out would be NTH and SSA and they have GAL and MLS Next to fall back on...
@ blu I agree, that the ECNL teams prior to U15 are stronger, yes, but I believe DA had stronger teams starting at U15 since there was a consolidation from 7+ teams down to 3...
Are you going to have the one off team that can beat a DA/ECNL/MLS_Next team on any given day, absolutely...

By success, are you asking whether ECNL will implode in a few years? I guess anything is possible. No, I'm saying the quality is lower than DA was There are more ECNL teams than there were non-MLS DA teams. By definition, the average talent level is lower because the player pool is expanded. So if that fits your narrative, have at it. Of consequence though is that the bar has been raised for college scouts to do their homework in recruiting. There won't be a concentration of talent like there was at DA. My guess is that the top D1 schools will be happier because they can do the bulk of their recruiting at MLS showcases. Lower tier D1, D2 and NAIA will likely focus on ECNL (and NPL, depending on the region in the US).
