“Going back to 2000, when I took over a pretty big sized club in today's standards, about 5,000 total members, there was me, one part-time administrative person, and all volunteers. That doesn't happen anymore. It has become professionalized. ” ....and much more expensive.

I think there were some awesome points that he made. Seems like a shrewd guy. Agree with bogan it is more expensive now than it was. I do like how often he mentioned doing what is right for the kids as players and as people. I don't know if he practices what he preaches since I don't know anyone at that club at the moment but I wish more people would do that...do what is right for kids. Too often I hear people say what they think is right for a kid but they are only doing what is right and easy for them...or to get numbers in the door.

NCFC has quality teams for sure.
here is the problem, they control the entire MSA of Raleigh -- if you don't like what they are selling or the opposite, they don't think your kid is quality enough for their top teams, you basically have to leave the city to play competitive soccer.

I agree-but it’s like that in many places-why we drive 61 miles each way for practice. N. Atlanta is blessed-unless clubs keep merging.

I am originally from Texas. If you go look at the size of FC Dallas or Solar or Lonestar it would surprise you. I would guess that Rec fees are probably not much higher in 2019 than 2005. I would assume cost of living / inflation causes some prices to rise. I think most are talking about the rise of travel soccer prices. The rise of ECNL, NL, DA, GA League all contributed to that probably just as much as the clubs themselves. Does anyone know who is the biggest club, based on players, in Georgia?

Not quite true... Some are leaving or going to Wake FC. Unfortunately, Wake FC has a terrible online image (basic website, no social media) so this may not be widely known.

I was talking about the rise of “professional” travel soccer-by that I mean paid instead of volunteer coaching. The prices started to go up when full time paid positions got added to club. However-the quality and consistency of coaching has gone up as well. What I’m concerned with now is that there will be fewer options-the prices will increase, not in relation to the quality of coaching-more based on quantity of staff and ego.

Either SSA, UFA, or Atlanta Fire. Tough depending on how you look at at the branches and Rec.

Agree. No economies of scale.

I agree that ultimately there should be some carrot for making the top team at the club. In the Atlanta market with 7 or 8 clubs having ECNL/GA someone could really differentiate themselves by offering fully funded pricing (maybe except travel) for families. This would make a huge difference for some families.

I believe NCFC subsidized all the travel expenses for the u19s last fall and until the season was canceled because of the unknown tiered approach implemented by the DA and the additional travel expenses it caused.
