From the Athletic- Expansion seems like an inevitable part of life in the U.S. soccer landscape. That goes double for the USL, which oversees a structure encompassing the country’s only second-division (Championship) and one of two third-division sanctioned competitions (League One). Excluding MLS affiliates, there have been 22 teams launched across both leagues over the last 5 years.
Rest is behind a paywall-but 40 markets...wow.

That's less than I would have expected across the two leagues, League one will hopefully get more MLS2 teams, but they need far more than current 11 teams. They need more regional draw. Maybe 4 conferences of 12 teams to sit atop the 82 USL League two teams.

Maybe we will end up with something like baseballs minors.

Speaking of USL -here’s some soccer down 16 (that’s South Georgia) news... “Fuse Group Investment Companies is pleased to fund a $6,800,000 loan to enable finalization of the infrastructure for the upcoming Publix shopping center and a Soccer stadium in Statesboro GA. This project is a great proof that cities and municipalities can be a great catalyst for growth and development.” Eyal Peretz CEO
