Tough criteria they're looking in a coach. Curious how many coaches possess all or most of the below...
Qualifications and Education Requirements • Be a current USSF ‘C’ licensed coach (minimum) • Have 5 years minimum experience coaching youth, collegiate or professional soccer • Possess the drive to develop youth players and work as part of a team • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills • Be a motivated individual who can work a varied schedule of nights, weekends, and holidays • Possess strong organizational and personal management skills • Have knowledge of scouting and how to identify talent • Possess basic computer skills, example Excel, word, power point, keynote • Have the ability to plan, create, execute and document training sessions and programs • Have a basic knowledge of the Development Academy rules and regulations
Required Skills • Bachelor’s degree • Have a college or professional playing background • Understand the recruitment process for college bound players • Ability to speak other languages a plus

Tough criteria they're looking in a coach. Curious how many coaches possess all or most of the below... I can't speak for other clubs, but almost all the coaches that coached a DA team would have these credentials. I would venture to say multiple coaches on the ECNL side would also fit the bill too...

Those qualifications seem awfully high for a once a week supplemental program. Why do you need a bachelors degree to coach any sport? Let alone 8-14 year olds. I’m sure there are some good young people who perhaps played the game and got hurt or just decided I don’t want to play I want to coach who can’t even get in for an interview. A lot of smart people didn’t go to college (maybe that’s why they were smart). On another note, that RDS seems like a goldmine racket. Why can’t you attend RDS camps unless you are in the RDS program? You could have separate tryouts for the camps and attract a wider consumer base. I know other MLS academies that have camps don’t have that requirement.

I can't speak for other clubs, but almost all the coaches that coached a DA team would have these credentials. I would venture to say multiple coaches on the ECNL side would also fit the bill too... DA requirements were mostly on the "A" license (except the apprentice coach), experience, and ability to prepare, document and execute training sessions, and in fact DA was far more strict than ECNL. No BS degree required, or 5 years min experience or things like computer knowledge or communication skills were required. Parents know what it feels like when coaches don't communicate or don't have a great team manager to do it for them. This is about AU though. Certain criteria are vital for their RDS and don't know the pay, but, I would say couple requirements are a bit of an overkill for the job description they're for.

My guess is that they don’t want a gagillion resumes to sort.

So essentially be requiring a college degree they don’t want any elite former players just ones good enough to play college but not past it.
Just think how many current professional league and National team coaches don’t have a college degree. I’d say 75% don’t. But then again the US thinks our greatest coach is Bruce Arena who got his start as a Lacrosse coach but also had to coach the soccer team to supplement his pay at UVA.
