Fifteen on the roster. Four unable to play due to injury prior to start of the tournament. One injured in first game. That left 10, including goalie, for remaining games. Tied the first two games 0-0, won the third and semi, then lost in the final. Their coach did an amazing job of having them play smart-not running after balls that were out of reach etc. and keeping a tight line of defense that trapped opposing players offsides. Fitness level of that team and ball control is what allowed them to do as well as they did. CASL and Tennessee looked caught out and expected to just run them over with an extra man. CASL coach adjusted well in last game to put more up front and run all 7 subs in and out with frequency. TH just flat ran out of steam in the last 15 min. against four in the front vs. three in the back. Good game all around in the final even with the man short.

Considering this is their Gold Team, why on earth would the coach only take 15 on the roster for their first year in Athena? 16 - even 17 is a smarter move for U13's to get adjusted to the level of play. You need at least that many for State Cup in May for the heat alone.

i'm assuming coach had very little options given all the other tophat teams were also in the tourney. sounds like girls played tough though. not easy in that heat!!! parents should be proud of those girls.

I know I have seen that team play 11v11 against other clubs on other occasions, so I don't think this is their first 11v11 situation by far. Don't thing they would have gotten as far as they did this weekend if it was. Most of the u13's I saw (boys and girls) this weekend only had three or four on the bench. CASL was the only ones who had so many. Having looked at the tournament site seems like all their teams at just about every level were already playing. Seems like just a bad bit of luck for them.

Out of curiosity I just pulled up their bracket to see who and what level they were playing. Wow they beat CASL Sunday morning in their final group game and then had to play a semi before they met CASL again in the finals. And this was the top bracket for u13 too. That's one hélluva team to pull together for that. I hope they got one long standing ovation while they received their medals.
