I don't know about you all, but I lost a couple of people that were terribly sick and died due to covid.
There is no silver bullet yet, but the people complaining how masks don't work never come up better solutions.
If it was such a money grab, they wouldn't care about masks, they would allow everyone to participate with no restrictions. When that happens they will make money but will likely have a bunch of people spreading it.
I don't know much about all the science behind the masks, but it seems to be the top globally accepted prevention practice being championed by scientists. If there is a small chance it helps, why bash the mask strategy particularly if you don't have a better option or strategy.
I'm sure most kids will not like playing with masks and get that. Adults don't like it either but seriously some of the complaints and bashing of scientists and potential solutions are just ridiculous and laughable. Just pull out of the tournament if its such a big deal. There are even parents out there who know they have been in contact with someone that has covid19 but still go to tournaments with no masks or care about who else they spread to, all they are concerned about is going to these irrelevant tournaments.

footballerI agree with masks in general. There is no science behind their use outdoors with a sport like soccer where there is intermittent time spent very close to the same person. I believe in masks decreasing spread particularly indoors. I do not believe in them outdoors in a mobile sport like soccer or lacrosse. That being said my kid said she would rather play in a mask than not play at all. She is going to play. The sacrifice is worth it. Love of the game!!!

This went pretty well, masks and all. Most of the refs were pretty lenient about the masks below noses or under the chin for a bit to help catch breath. We had a mask-nazzi for our final game today who was either a bad ref or simply biased against our team. Our girls won in dramatic fashion regardless.

There were some Maryland clubs who pulled out of the NCFC Showcase such as Bethesda, Baltimore Armour, Baltimore Celtic. But that wasn't the case for all age groups. Baltimore Armour still send their U17 team. Pipeline Soccer sent teams to NCFC Showcase and ECNL Showcase. So don't think Maryland is enforcing travel restrictions.

There was a Bethesda tournament that had positive COVID tests happen right after it concluded and then they canceled the boys side. I figured the loss of Maryland teams was maybe more due to quarantine or uneasy parents. We went to the tournament but had some missing players due to uneasy parents. Luckily we were able to get one guest player last minute to give us some subs.

Does anyone know someone of HS age or younger who has had COVID with significant symptoms or health impact? Thinking specifically of athletes - who are generally healthier than most. Exclude those with pre-existing conditions (obesity, diabetes, etc.)
Not looking for names / locations - just a tally. Has COVID had any real impact on HS age or younger? My personal experience, with College age and lower, is many have had it, but no one I know has been hospitalized or suffered more than a bad cold / mild flu.
Basically, is this all much ado about nothing (for kids)?
