I wonder what this means for High School soccer. The limitation of boys DA was that you couldn’t play HS but ECNL was only half year and allowed HS. Does this mean the kids selected for this more elite ECNL program will not play HS and thus further dilute the quality of HS soccer?

It says that there MAY be 10 month programming but it did not say anything specific about high school. Even if it DID take them away from high school I doubt it will matter that much. From what I can tell this would be 3 to 5 kids per age group per club. Let's take the girls side for example. At most it would be 25 girls per grade across all of metro Atlanta (probably fewer in the freshman and sophomore years). It would be unlikely that many schools would lose more than 1 kid for their squads. Maybe 2 at the most. Given how many schools there are in metro Atlanta I just can't imagine it would matter much. How many boys teams are there? 7 (that aren't AU)? So 35 kids per grade? I think the idea of this programming is great! It just gives the best of the best a challenge!

What are people's opinions of this program for the kids who would be selected from the oldest two age groups? From a quick glance (and not knowing much about this) the program seems to have a bigger benefit for the younger players to be challenged by being mixed in with the older players but what benefit do the older players get from this? Time to be a leader? But I assume if they are selected for this they are already the best of their respective age group and probably a leader on their age group's team. I would imagine the compiled team through this program would not be made up of better talent than their normal team either so probably a bit of a step down in competition. I think the idea of the program is good just curious what people think the oldest kids get out of this and why they would want to participate. Maybe this is the way ECNL is attempting to keep the "best of the best" playing and training at their club year round so a half year season doesn't hinder their development too much.

Off the top of my head, look around for a usl, npsl or good usasa team if the kid is a boy (not sure if NISA has amateur contracts?) For girls there are WPSL teams, but those are summer based I think.

just seems like it adds to the rat race mls doing some strange feb - oct schedule, so i guess those kids will be playing 12 months a year. USL had implemented a single academy team across all u15 plus age groups. now the supercup.
can't even keep track of it anymore and it's making something so simple overly complicated. its soccer, it's a ball, lines, grass/turf and a goal. just play the game. play for fun, have one league that top teams can compete in and be done with it. MLS youth makes a move. ECNL one ups them. MLS one ups ECNL ECNL tries to one up MLS MLS tries to one up ECNL.
i'm getting sick of this crap to be honest.

I know the USL Academy is setup with this same age structure but not sure if the others mentioned have mandatory numbers for age groups etc. WPSL is similar to USL2 (old PDL) on the men's side. There are age allowances for some additional players older than 23 I believe but in my opinion at that age it is very different when you are talking about 19+ yr olds compared to 14-18 from a competitive standpoint. Still really curious how this benefits the older kids. I'm not saying that it doesn't I just don't know what it would be right now so interested in others thoughts.

I think this will just be plain fun. Bragging rights to the club that can field the best team. Forget all the benefits, it'll be interesting to watch some of the matches.

I thought you were looking for alternatives bc you didn't think your child would benefit from playing with younger age groups. Players in the options I mentioned tend to be 18-28 range

For the younger ones I think the benefit is fairly clear. Not thinking about my child in particular.
